Fran Berry has a couple of selections for today's meeting at Listowel, where the heavy ground is expected to suit some more than others.
It's going to be seriously testing ground at Listowel and we've already had well in excess of 30 non-runners but some of the horses will handle it just fine including Jim Bolger's Flying Visit in the first race.
He's had a few chances but hasn't done a great deal wrong and looks an obvious one to kick off the card for favourite-backers.
Charlie Bassett might be worth opposing in the mile maiden at 2.45 but it's hard to know how much improvement to expect from Party Season and Tashim so it's a watching race only for me.
I do think Sea The Dawn will love the conditions in the final race on the card but his price has totally dried up now on the back of a bunch of non-runners so we can leave him alone as well.
My first bet comes in the 0-70 mile handicap at 2.10 and BARDO CONTIGUO (5/1 Betfair/Paddy Power 1/5 1,2,3,4), a son of Lope De Vega who has won on good but won't mind the wetter conditions here.
He's got a good draw in stall five, has come down the weights for a fair fifth at Punchestown last time and stays further than this trip. He also goes with the first-time tongue tie which is no bad thing and the ex-Roger Varian inmate just looks a really solid option to take on last-time-out winner Ecoeye.
The other one I'm backing is RAMIRO (11/2 bet365 1/5 1,2,3) who scored on his last start. I see him as a sprinter who just about gets this seven furlong trip on an easy track and his Curragh success came on heavy so we know he'll go on the ground.
He's still open to a bit of improvement and while not ideally drawn in nine, the withdrawals mean he shouldn't be quite as inconvenienced as what you'd expect from that position.
I'm hoping he gets out, gets across and is game enough to hold on from some of the closer.
