We’ve had a lot of rain over here in the last 48 hours and it’s gone soft, while it could be even worse than that at Gowran Park if it continues.

With that in mind the best bet on the card is MR WENDALL in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at 5.25 at 15/8 (Sky Bet).

This horse ran a huge race on debut at Naas on June 8 when he found only Masteroffoxhounds too good, a horse that had experience.

Mr Wendall travelled very well from stall 14, showing lots of potential, and he’s well worth forgiving a slightly lesser performance when sixth at the Curragh after that in a good race.

The key tonight is the drop back in trip to seven furlongs on testing ground. A son of Excelebration, I expect him to enjoy conditions and drawn in stall one he has the plum starting berth, too.

Looking at his action he really could relish the ground and I like his likely track position from stall one, something that could have a big bearing on the result here with main market rival Balmari drawn wide in 18.

Gary Carroll takes the ride with Colin Keane suspended and he rates a very solid bet.
