Latest news from this afternoon's meeting at Newmarket where Mildenberger won the Feilden Stakes for Mark Johnston and James Doyle.
Doyle delivers aboard Mildenberger
Mildenberger (11/4) wore down Fortune's Pearl to win the bet365 Feilden Stakes (click on race name for free video replay) at Newmarket.
For much of the Listed contest the 25/1 runner-up looked poised to make all the running under Oisin Murphy having led the field a merry dance down the centre of the track.
He still had a length-and-a-half in hand of the eventual winner entering The Dip but gradually James Doyle's mount began to eat into the advantage and he was alongside meeting the rising round and half-a-length clear at the line.
Kew Gardens (7/4 favourite) was six lengths away in third, never a factor having been tapped for toe when the tempo increased three out.
The winning trainer Mark Johnston said: "James said he wasn’t sure if they’d gone quick enough and he was laid back early on, he wasn’t sure if he’d have gone the pace if they were going any faster.
"I thought he’d given the leader too much of a start but he’s got to him well in the end, looks as though he’ll stay every inch of the trip at least, which we always thought would be the case.
"The Dante’s the obvious next step. Like we said with Permian last year you go to the Dante and it tells you whether you are going to the Derby or not.
"I suppose he is [a similar type to Permian]. We’d not thought about it. Permian started in a handicap, albeit it turned out to be a very good handicap. He hadn’t been as consistent as this fellow was as a two-year-old.
"He can get quite worked up beforehand, he wears a lip chain in the preliminaries but he has a great attitude once he gets out on the course."
Purser books Newmarket return
Purser (2/1) proved too strong for the well-backed 4/6 favourite Symbolization in the British EBF bet365 Conditions Stakes.
The pair had the race between them from the two furlong marker but the market leader could never wrest the initiative from his rival who had the advantage of a recent pipe-opener at Newcastle and who stayed on strongly under Frankie Dettori to score by a neck.
It was ten lengths back to Stormbringer in third.
"It was great, the horse showed a lot of courage giving three pounds to the second. He’s not easy to place. We'll come back here for the King Charles II and the Jersey would be another obvious place," winning trainer John Gosden told Racing UK.
Dascombe star makes impressive start
Jackstar looked a juvenile of some potential when making a sparkling winning debut in the Montaz Restaurant EBF Novice Stakes.
Tom Dascombe's charge was strong in the market all day and having been sent off at 11/4 took command of proceedings approaching the final furlong.
He was soon in command and wasn't asked too many searching questions to pull a length-and-three-quarters clear of Ynys Mon in second.
Aidan O’Brien’s Van Beethoven (9/4 favourite) was slowly away but made good late headway to take third and will be much wiser for the experience.
Aurum justifies pre-race hype
Division one of the Alex Scott Maiden Stakes went the way of Aurum for Charlie Appleby and Wiliam Buick.
The son of Exceed And Excel had been the subject of a strong word ahead of his racecourse debut and made short work of his rivals here, quickening well inside the final furlong to beat Tilgham by two-and-three-quarter lengths.
The second division was run in a faster time and was won by Porth Swtan. Paul Hanagan was in the saddle for Charlie Hills and his partner showed a good attitude to fend off Ambient (33/1) and win half-a-length.
Berry on board with Examiner
Sporting Life columnist Fran Berry got on the scoresheet courtesy of Examiner (14/1) in the Plusvital Energene-Q10 Handicap.
It was a close-call though as the gallant Red Tea refused to go down without a fight having been headed inside the distance and rallied strongly in the final 50 yards, only going down by a head.
Isomer (25/1) and Glory Awaits (33/1) filled the minor placings.

"I had a lovely run through the race and he quickened up well but it was a real battle in the end. I've ridden the second before and she's really brave. It's slow, tacky ground and the cut helped my fellow," Berry told Racing UK.
'Jack be nimble
The bet365 Handicap went the way of Mjjack for trainer Karle Burke and jockey Clifford Lee.
The 7/1 shot got the better of Love Dreams after a protracted dual between the pair, emerging a length and a half to the good.
Major Jumbo (7/2) made most of the running under Nicola Currie to win the concluding Quy Mill Hotel & Spa Handicap.
The grey kept finding at the head of affairs to register a decisive length and a half success from Move In Time.
