A look at the horses who've been attracting ante-post support for the Classics with Sky Bet, Betfair and Paddy Power.
QIPCO 2000 Guineas
At 1.96 Pinatubo is the shortest he’s been in the Exchange ante-post market since the market was on site. It’s been a very decent betting affair and of the £242,619 matched in the race, £161,616, or 66%, has been on him. It now looks highly likely that he will go off odds-on come Saturday 6th.
The Sportsbook went evens Pinatubo on the 19th May, he’s now 10/11. Although the biggest loser in the book is Arizona. The average price we laid Arizona at is 11/1 and he’s currently 8/1 and looks at this stage the main threat to Pinatubo but obviously has lengths to find.
QIPCO 1000 Guineas
A weak ante-post market on the Exchange with only £20k traded but on the Sportsbook, as you would expect, Quadrilateral is our biggest loser having been backed by some customers at as big as 10/1. She is now clear favourite at 11/4 with us. In the past few days we have begun to lay Love and we are now 10/1 from 14/1 on that filly.
Investec Oaks
Born With Pride is popular on the Exchange, albeit, in an illiquid market. On the Sportsbook we have laid an average price of 14/1 and she is now 10/1 with us. Quadrilateral remains 11/2 favourite in the market but happy to take her on at that price.
Investec Derby
At 15/2 Military March tops the betting on the Exchange, having been matched at a high of 30. Pinatubo is plenty weak with growing suspicions that he wont be campaigned beyond a mile this year looking increasingly accurate.
Mogul is a loser for the Sportsbook having laid him at an average price of 20/1, he’s now 10/1. Pinatubo remains 7/1 favourite but, again, is attracting little or no support.
QIPCO 2000 Guineas
This is a complete one horse book with Pinatubo rock solid in the market at 10/11. He has been solid throughout the winter and features in quite a few ante-post multiple bets.
QIPCO 1000 Guineas
Quadrilateral has been very popular over the winter and has been backed into her current price of 3/1. She has course form in the book after her Fillies' Mile victory. At bigger prices, the Tom Dascombe-trained Boomer has her followers at a big price
Investec Derby
The Derby market has been lively with the horses at the top of the market proving popular. The worst of our results is Waldkonig who has been strong since bolting up at Wolverhampton in December. The other horse of note is Military March who has been backed into second favouritism.
Investec Oaks
The best backed horse in what has been a quiet betting heat is Domino Darling trained by William Haggas. She won on debut at Doncaster and has been nibbled at over the last few weeks.
QIPCO 2000 Guineas
Arizona is our worst result and he’s getting our traders into a bit of a state. He was 16/1 for the race after his two-length defeat by favourite Pinatubo in the Dewhurst, but rumours that a drone couldn’t keep up with him on the gallops mean he’s halved in price.
QIPCO 1000 Guineas
Millisle is the best backed horse for the first fillies’ Classic despite being unproven over the mile. We introduced her into the market at 33/1 after her Cheveley Park win and she was cut to 10s (from 16) after Jessica Harrington indicated that she’s Newmarket bound.
Investec Derby
Mogul was backed at 50/1 over a month before his debut last August and is the best backed horse and our worst result for the Blue Riband. He was beaten five-and-a-half lengths on that debut, but that didn’t deter punters, who came in for the then 33/1 and now he is only 10/1.
Investec Oaks
Born With Pride is our worst result after being inserted into the market at 20/1 last December. I’m only guessing but she was probably showing something on the Newmarket gallops as she was well supported in the first half of April and we cut her to 12/1 as a result.
