6.45 toteexacta Pick The 1st And 2nd Handicap

Big Lachie followed up victory over the minimum trip at Newcastle with a close second from his revised mark on over the same trip a couple of weeks ago. He’s on an unchanged mark here but the combination of stepping up in trip (one win from 14 starts) and the polytrack surface (0/3) makes him opposable. Desert Fox beat Bernie’s Boy in a similar race to this last Saturday and the latter scored on Monday and re-opposes on worse terms. Mike Murphy’s four-year old should have the beating of him again here and should make a bold bid to land a track and trip double from a 3lb higher mark. He also won here back in November but it’s a horse he beat that day who I fancy to turn the tables on more favourable terms and that horse is the northern-raider LANJARO for Kevin Ryan. He has a 7lb swing in the weights for a one-and-three-quarter length defeat which with a similar performance would see him go close to reversing that form. This four-year-old showed improvement for first-time cheekpieces that day and connections have decided to pursue them again here. He’s still lightly raced, has won over this trip, been handed a nice draw and is very unexposed on the synthetics so should be competitive again here at decent odds.

7.45 totetrifecta Pick The 1,2,3 Conditions Stakes

The feature race of this evening’s card has only attracted the five-runners but it’s a competitive little heat. Dai Harrald makes his season reappearance and he brings pretty solid form to the table having won a listed event at York back in May before a couple of creditable efforts in Group 2 company. William Haggas’ charge is a worthy favourite but past reappearance efforts have suggested that he might just need this after just shy of 200-days off the track. Great Hall landed a hat-trick of wins over the summer with the final one of those coming in a Class 2 handicap from top-weight, though his four previous attempts on the polytrack haven’t been that encouraging. Curbyourenthusiasm has plenty to find on official ratings whilst General Ginger looks out of his depth in this company. That therefore leaves the door wide open for the Mark Johnston-trained SOLDIER IN ACTION who would’ve found the mile-and-a-half journey on Monday too short after a break and now back up to two-miles should see him get back in the winners enclosure. This five-year old signed off with a hard fought victory over this trip on Kempton’s polytrack in November and both the second and third that day have since won. He’s won over much shorter on the level before and with this likely to be slightly tactical his front-running tactics may prove beyond the others as he can dictate the pace and use that pace late in the day too kick clear in the hands of all-weather specialist Adam Kirby who is a good judge of pace.
