I'm a big fan of Jovial Joey. He's a good looking, consistent, progressive type. Running off 112 at the beginning of the winter he has risen through the ranks and begins the new season off a 20lb higher mark.
For me the trip is perfect for him, but the ground is a concern. If it turns into a real slog I think he could be vulnerable and, while he’s highly respected, at 5/2 I will look elsewhere.
Wadswick Court has the blinkers applied for the first time and he's been reasonably consistent since joining Peter Bowen, but again there doesn't seem to be much juice in his price at 4/1.
James Moffatt does well with his horses at Cartmel and I wouldn't be surprised if this race has been the target for a while for his Fantasy King, but I'm not convinced he wants the combination of this ground and trip.
A horse who really progressed a couple of years ago is PRESENTING JUNIOR and at 5/1 he’s the bet in this race this afternoon.
He began last year off a mark of 139 and despite the odd placed effort he never got competitive in any of the races he contested.
However, I was much more encouraged on his last start when he ran a solid third to the improving Lord Ballim who has gone on to win since. Only beaten just over nine lengths at Carlisle, this was easily his most encouraging run in a while.
Martin Todhunter has banged in two winners from his last four runners and I'm hoping an in-form Presenting Junior turns up today.
He runs off 106 this afternoon (1lb out of the handicap), but if he's on a going day he is entitled to take all the beating off this mark.
2.35 Huntingdon preview
SACRAMENTO KING makes his chase debut in a handicap today. He has shaped fairly over hurdles and is unexposed against a few exposed rivals. He should stay and if jumping can run a big race at 16/1 (Stan James, 14s generally).
