Forever My Friend is a joy to watch over fences when he's on his game, but he's over hurdles today and does have questions to answer. This is his first run over hurdles for five years, he's now 10 years of age and ran well below par last time.
His main danger is COMANCHE CHIEFTAIN who is looking to notch up a hat-trick.
He was a consistent horse on the Flat for Michael Appleby and has run solidly over hurdles since joining the yard of Neil King.
I was really impressed with his last run when he fought off Lieutenant Gruber who I have always held in high regard. The runner-up may not have gone through with his effort that day but I do feel the form has a decent look to it.
Even though on the book it isn't an easy task giving a stone away to Forever My Friend, I like the fact he is the improver and is more likely to run his race. I would have him favourite so at 11/10 (generally) I think he's worth a bet.
In the 7.35 at Uttoxeter ROYAL PLAZA could be the one to be on at 5/1 (bet365, 9/2 generally).
He is a horse with lots of natural ability and I think track and trip are ideal for him today. He should get a fairly-run race and I can see him creeping round the back and being bang there on the home turn ready to pounce.
