Saffron Prince won well last time out at Newton Abbot but I feel things may have fallen into his lap a bit as there was a really fast pace set. However, he is very much respected in this ordinary handicap chase.
Firmount Gent was backed heavily on his debut for Dan Skelton last time out but didn't look the most straightforward under pressure. He may appreciate the drop in trip today but being an 11-year-old who doesn't seem the easiest of conveyances is enough to put me off.
The horse who has the most ability of these and heads the weights is IN ON THE ACT. Still relatively a young horse at the age of seven, he was competing in far better races in 2016 and running very creditably off marks in the high 110s.
Since November last year his form has dipped and has resulted in him plunging down the weights. Last time out there was more promise shown as he showed up for quite a way and if we take out the winner Bestwork, who is a huge improver, In On The Act was only beaten just over eight lengths.
The sheepskin cheekpieces are applied today and he also may show more interest running at a track like Fontwell.
In a weak race I'm willing to chance him off a mark of 98 this afternoon.
