A horse who I feel has underachieved in his career thus far is VALHALLA.
He has always shown lots of ability in his races but sometimes doesn't find as much as his rivals at the business end of the race.
Last time out at Stratford he ran over 2m 6f and this was just his second chase start. What impressed me most about this run was his jumping. He was pinpoint accurate at most of his fences and made things look easy but once again didn't have the staying power of his rivals.
Today he takes a huge step down in trip which would normally concern me, but he's a horse who has won over 2m at Taunton and runs hard on the bridle over further.
The handicapper has been generous to drop him 2lb for his first start of the season, I feel he will relish conditions today and can see him taking a bit of stopping.
