OPTIMISTIC BIAS has been with James Evans for six months since leaving the yard of Jonjo O' Neill and notched up his first win for connections last time out at Uttoxeter.

There was a battle for the lead with Optimistic Bias involved in that early tussle. It wasn't a flawless performance but he raced with enthusiasm, hitting a few fences along the way. He managed to fend off Muckle Roe who had the run of the race and ran out a convincing winner.

For me he's a horse who needs to be ridden positively to get the best out of him, otherwise his jumping can suffer in among horses.

Today he races off a 5lb higher mark and may actually improve for better ground as his past form suggests.

Connections seem to be at a loss with Compadre, he takes a huge step up in trip today and he's hard to fancy.

RIVER OF INTRIGUE could prove to be the main threat. He is lightly raced and had a tendency in 2016 to not quite see out his races. Following a four-month break, he shaped quite nicely at Ludlow finishing seventh, beaten seven lengths over a shorter trip than he tackles today. All this time he is dropping down in the handicap and he should go go close.

Big Brother George is potentially the most interesting runner and could relish the chase game. If he does, he could easily play a hand.

5.40 Uttoxeter

Hepjeu has been well backed overnight and it's easy to see why but 3/1 about a two-time winner from 40 starts is not a price I can get enthused about.

Sage Monkey is respected. He's unexposed from a good yard and it will be interesting to whether the money comes for him.

WHAT LARKS is the horse I think is worth chancing. He has some reasonable form in the book but recently hasn't quite got home on slow ground over hurdles and fences. Today he runs over 2m 4f and the jockey booking of Daryl Jacob is encouraging.

He's worth chancing at 14/1.

Thursday's tip reviews:

Brotherly Company, 5.55 Fontwell

The race turned into a bit of farce with two non-runners and one refusing to start, so it was a match-up between BROTHERLY COMPANY and Work in Progress.

The latter went from the front and Brotherly Company sat a length off and jumped poorly. He never looked entirely comfortable; it's possible he wasn't letting himself down on the ground.

I would give him another chance on slightly slower ground but his jumping needs to improve and his confidence won't have been done any favours having fallen at the last.

Work In Progress did everything Harry Skelton asked and this was a nice confidence-booster for him.

Celtic Tune, 7.35 Fontwell

CELTIC TUNE made a bad error just as the pace was quickening, halting all of his momentum.

He did well to get back into the race but still remains a maiden after 13 starts.

Flugzeug, being the professional he is, did everything right from start to finish and won with a bit in hand.
