Venetia Williams’ horses are really beginning to find their stride now and she knows how to ready one after a lengthy break.
ACHILLE is a horse who has had just one start for the Herefordshire-based trainer having been campaigned in France. He ran a solid race as a five-year-old at Ascot in a very decent handicap and wasn’t beaten too far almost exactly two years ago.
There is rain due at Wincanton throughout the day and it will be a case the of more the better for his chances, whereas it will go against others in the line-up.
Play The Ace was an impressive winner last time out at Stratford but the combination of a hike in the handicap and softer ground means his assignment today is a lot tougher. The same applies to Mr Burbidge and then it’s a matter of horses who don’t seem to have much in hand of the handicapper.
So, despite a 722-day lay-off, ACHILLE looks worth a play at 4/1.
