Mission To Moon – Ascot 1.35 (Kieran Clark)

With plenty of rain around at Ascot on Friday and the potential for even more to come into the weekend it’s only strengthened the chances or MISSION TO MOON in this valuable event.

A three-year-old with some very strong form in the book, including when making the frame in the Britannia over a mile here at the Royal meeting, he again shaped well at Goodwood on ground that seemed lively enough for him (both wins on soft).

A strong stayer at the trip with a guaranteed honest pace to aim at, he is fancied to resume progress on what is just his second start against his elders, likely to get a good tow into it from Miss Information who is drawn next door.

Waxing Gibbous – Haydock 2.25 (Graeme North)

With four of the 15-strong field for the Old Borough Handicap at Haydock returning from very long absences, there’s a chance that it won’t be as competitive as some recent renewals and the one who appeals most is the filly WAXING GIBBOUS who represents the in-form David Menuisier stable who before the start of racing on Friday had had four winners and two seconds from their last 11 runners.

Waxing Gibbous has won just one of her six races, a handicap at Newbury in May when she got to the front easily before running green, having a couple of next-time-out winners behind, and she then stepped up on that form with a very good second to Good Too in a handicap at Kempton in June despite the drop in trip looking against her.

Now finally given a chance at a trip that promises to bring about a lot of improvement and from a good draw in stall five, she looks to have a very good chance

Irish Rumour - Navan 3.25 (Billy Nash)

With Champions weekend looming large on the horizon the only action in Ireland this weekend is a distinctly ordinary card at Navan.

Standout bets are thin on the ground but I do think IRISH RUMOUR is worth a little interest in the first of the two sprint handicaps.

She is still a maiden but has made the frame on six of her last eight starts (runner-up all three runs at 5f/6f) and there was plenty to like about her never-nearer second to Ostraka at the Curragh last time.

That was Irish Rumour's first start for four months so she is entitled to come on from it and this stiff uphill finish will play to her strengths.

Intervention - Kempton 4.20 (David Johnson)

With Radio Goo Goo and Habooba in here, this should be well run, and I can see it setting up well for those drawn low that are likely to just sit in behind.

Ferrous is sure to go well, but on closer inspection of his C&D win earlier in the season, INTERVENTION has to be the bet at much bigger odds. Both ran career-bests that day but their marks have gone in opposite directions since and while Intervention had to concede 2 lb to Ferrous on that occasion, he’s now in receipt of 11 lb.

Intervention has been running well on turf recently but I’m pretty sure he’s better on all-weather. He was too keen to prove as much recently under a change of rider at the Wolverhampton Racing League fixture three runs ago, but teaming up with Harry Davies, who has won three of the four times he’s ridden him looks a smart move. From stall 3, there’s a good chance he’ll get the run of the race.
