The Eagles dominated the Giants in the first meeting five weeks ago, but it’s been all downhill from the for the defending champions who will slump to the same record as their opponents with a fourth defeat in five.
The Giants have got themselves going and strung together back-to-back wins (albeit against the Bucs and 49ers) to put themselves in position for a rare win in Philadelphia – especially given the Eagles’ injury problems and their woeful showing last time out in New Orleans.
They were blown out by the Saints in the worst loss ever by a reigning Super Bowl champion and, while the Giants are by no means the Saints, they do have Odell Beckham just short of another 1,000 season and Saquon Barkley – who piled up an incredible 229 yards in the last meeting.
The Eagles have won the last four in this series but, along with Barkley, Eli Manning has some good numbers in Philadelphia and has over 350 yards in his last two at Lincoln Financial Field – this could be a great opportunity to make that three against a banged-up Eagles secondary.
Philly should get a response from last week, and they desperately need one, but the way they folded on both sides of the ball was a huge worry and in a rivalry game like this, there’s enough doubt to side with Big Blue.
Verdict: New York Giants (+6) at Evens
RequestABet: Saquon Barkley 100+ yards & a TD, Eli Manning & Carson Wentz throw 2+ TD passes.
Six is the magic number in this match-up as the Steelers ride into Bronco country on a six-game winning streak looking to extend their run of six straight wins over Denver. The hosts, though, ended the Chargers’ six-game winning run last week so will look to end another streak at Mile High.
Pittsburgh are the road warriors of the NFL with just one defeat in their last 14 games away from Heinz Field representing a remarkable return, and the way they maintained that streak by getting out of jail in Jacksonville last week was just as remarkable.
Their run’s been built on a defence yielding 21 points or less over their six-game streak, which is a bit more like the Steeler football we’re well used to – and it also means their usually high-octane offence is let off the hook when they misfire.
Denver’s defence is also decent – they give up a lot of yards but not too many points, and although they’re 4-6 but they’re in a tough division and have had a tough schedule and only lost to the Rams, Chiefs and Texans by a score.
Beating the Chargers was a huge boost for Denver but they’re running out of time to get back into the play-off shake-up, and with their offence not as potent as Pittsburgh’s they may just fall short in what should be a tough battle in the trenches.
Verdict: Pittsburgh Steelers to win at 4/7
RequestABet: Steelers win, under 49.5 points, Antonio Brown to score a TD, Ben Roethlisberger 250+ yards
We’re in to must-win territory for both of these two teams as they chase surprise NFC North leaders Chicago after the Bears won again on Thanksgiving to give them a commanding lead at the top of the standings.
It was a 29-29 draw in the last meeting between these two and something’s got to give in this rematch with the Packers 0-5 on the road this season while the Vikings have lost three prime time games this season – to once again bring up QB Kirk Cousins’ 4-12 record in big games.
It’s been a brutal stretch for Green Bay but they’ve been well in those tough road games but coughed up fumbles against the Rams and Patriots that cost them and also surrendered a fourth-quarter lead in Seattle.
Strangely for a team with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, the Packers have been leaning on running back Aaron Jones of late, who leads the NFL in yards-per-carry and has been prolific in the last couple of games.
The Vikings are the second-worst running team in the league but with Cousins and receiver Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs they have plenty of ammunition to exploit a troubled secondary through the air, and that will be the main route for success.
Both have shown glimpses, and the Packers in particular have matched some big teams in big road games recently but have not managed to see it through, whoever can put together the more complete 60-minute performance will take the win.
Verdict: Packers to win (+3) at Evens
RequestABet: Over 47.5pts, Adam Thielen & Aaron Jones to score, Kirk Cousins to throw 2+ TDs.
