Peyton Manning to have Indianapolis jersey retired

Peyton Manning will become the first Indianapolis Colts player to have his jersey retired during a two-day celebration of his illustrious career, which will also see a statue of the quarterback unveiled outside the club's stadium and an induction into the team's Ring of Honour.

Following his retirement from the NFL earlier this year, the Colts plan to spend a weekend honouring his outstanding contribution to the club.

The celebration will begin with an unveiling of Manning's statue outside Lucas Oil Stadium on October 7, before he becomes just the seventh player in franchise history with a retired jersey number while also receiving his induction to the prestigious ring the following day.

"Peyton will always be a Colt," said Colts Owner & CEO Jim Irsay. "This will be an event our city, state and Colts fans around the world can celebrate and be proud of."

The 41-year-old spent his first 13 seasons in Indy, where he won four MVP Awards and guided the Colts to their second Super Bowl victory in franchise history.

He holds club seasonal and career records in completions, attempts and touchdowns, expressed his gratitude at

"I am humbled, and I am grateful to Jim and the Irsay family for this tremendous honour," said Manning.
