Running-back LeGarrette Blount joins Philadelphia

Two-time Super Bowl-winning running back LeGarrette Blount has signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 30-year-old was a free agent following his release from the New England Patriots, the reigning Super Bowl champions.

The hard-hitting 250lb running-back arrives in Philadelphia on the back of the most successful season of his seven-year career in the NFL, which saw him finish with 1,161 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns.

Blount, who entered the league in 2010 as an undrafted free agent, will provide the Eagles offence and quarterback Carson Wentz with another weapon, after former Chicago Bears wide-receiver Alshon Jeffery joined back in March.

Blount will join the long list of running-back's available to Head Coach Doug Pederson, with Ryan Mathews, Wendell Smallwood, and Darren Sproles already on the roster.

In a statement on the team's website, the Eagles executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman said: "LeGarrette Blount is a tough, physical runner who has enjoyed a great deal of success in New England and we are excited about adding him to this football team.

"We feel good about the depth and competition that we have created at the running back position and we are looking forward to getting the guys out on the field next week."
