Greyhound racing tips & selections for Monday August 14

BEST BET: Droopys Opah (T1, 8.37 Nottingham)

NEXT BEST: Droopys Expert (T4, 9.07 Nottingham)

TREBLE: Swithins Beans (T6, 9.22 Nottingham)

The Puppy Classic heats begin at Nottingham this evening and several potential stars looked poised to be on show at the Colwick Park venue.

Paul Young landed this prize with Bubbly Bluebird last year, and the master handler looks to have another ace in the pack with the highly promising October ’15 whelp Droopys Opah (T1), who bids to get his campaign off to a flyer at 8.37.

The son of Droopys Jet was slightly disappointing when well-backed for the Puppy Trophy final at Hove earlier this month, though he was crowded out at the first and third bend and his fourth place finish can probably be upgraded.

He had looked highly promising prior to that effort and could restore his earlier lofty reputation by getting through to the latter stages of this competition.

Droopys Expert (T4) is held in high regard by the team at Angela Harrison’s and the Sunderland Puppy Plate runner-up can justify that belief with victory at 9.07 in the penultimate heat of the evening.

The Greenwell Hawk dog should have benefitted hugely from two solo spins around the track in recent weeks and could prove tough to catch now attempting 500m for the first time in competitive race company.

The final heat of the evening at 9.22 looks to be one of the more competitive of the night and it could be worth following the form lines with Swithins Beans (T6).

Elaine Parker’s charge got the better of Dow Jones over this course and distance last week, and the unexposed selection is fancied to confirm that form and account for these rivals.

Charlie Lister’s promising Cain Hill will have entered plenty of notebooks when an unlucky odds-on loser at Doncaster seven days ago, and he could provide the main threat this time round.
