Billy Foster reflects on his 13 Ryder Cup appearances including alongside Seve Ballesteros

If experience is invaluable at the Ryder Cup, then it's no surprise that Billy Foster, a veteran of 13 renewals as caddie to the likes of Lee Westwood and Seve Ballesteros, is heading to Paris as part of Team Europe.

Foster has been invited along by friend, colleague and now vice captain Westwood to help out behind the scenes and goes there with the mission of doing anything he can to help Europe gain revenge for their Hazeltine defeat two years ago.

Speaking to Sporting Life's Ben Coley from his Yorkshire home, dressed in European blue, Foster reflects upon his experiences from Muirfield Village in 1987 right through to 2016, when Europe's winning run came to a shuddering halt.

He tells us about his first trip to America more than 30 years ago, the "evil" atmosphere in the 1991 renewal dubbed 'The War on the Shore', and Seve's unique captaincy style as he oversaw a European victory on Spanish soil in 1997.

We also hear about Foster's most treasured Ryder Cup memories, which come courtesy of an emotional 2006 win alongside Darren Clarke after a heart-to-heart in the weeks prior to the K Club convinced the Northern Irishman to play following the death of his wife.
