The Open Championship: Round two three-ball betting preview

Tony Finau looks worth following after another excellent start as Ben Coley previews round two of the Open Championship.

Recommended bets:

2pts Finau to beat Schauffele and Vegas at 11/10

2pts Kuchar to beat Uihlein and Lahiri at 11/10

Finau to beat Schauffele and Vegas (1532 BST)

Bookmakers have been quick to react to Tony Finau's excellent start in the Open Championship, but I'm not sure they've caught up with the American at 11/10 in a place and evens generally.

Finau was 10th in the Masters and fifth in the US Open and an opening four-under 67 confirmed that he can be a factor under the altogether different conditions of this great championship, too.

Thursday's round was built on a strong ball-striking performance - he hit 14 of 18 greens - and having beaten Xander Schauffele by four and Jhonattan Vegas by nine, he's worth sticking with.

Schauffele has struggled to match the heights of 2017 lately and while he was 20th on his Open debut last year, still lacks the top-level experience of Finau.

Vegas meanwhile was the last man to arrive at Carnoustie, flying in on Thursday morning after visa issues and only just making his tee-time.

The Venezuelan is playing with a new set of clubs and without any kind of preparation so it will be a surprise if he's competitive. In what therefore amounts to a head-to-head, anything upwards of 8/11 is worth having.

Kuchar to beat Uihlein and Lahiri (1448 BST)

With tougher conditions forecast for Friday, Matt Kuchar's advantage over Peter Uihlein and Anirban Lahiri should only increase and I'm amazed he's odds-against in a place.

Last year's Open runner-up got off to another solid start with a round of 70, four clear of Uihlein and six ahead of Lahiri, and everything points to another fairly comfortable victory.

The American hit more greens than both his playing partners and with by far the best short-game of the trio, the 8/13 offered by one firm looks far more accurate than those offering 11/10 and evens.
