Our Formula One Insider is expecting a good weekend for McLaren at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Sainz can hit top six
Carlos Sainz's first three outings as McLaren team leader were races to forget as misfortune derailed his ambitions. But the Azerbaijan Grand Prix marked a turning point in the Spaniard's season as he battled to a creditable seventh. An eighth place followed at his home race at Barcelona, but Monaco was the circuit at which it all came together, as he finished "best of the rest" in sixth place behind the Mercedes, Red Bulls and Sebastian Vettel's Ferrari after a flawless weekend.
The Montreal track, with its long straights, heavy braking zones and technical slow corners, is something of a halfway house between Monte Carlo and Baku, so McLaren should be up near the front of the midfield. A repeat of Sainz's top six finish from two weeks ago looks a fair bet at 7/1.
McLaren set for points spree
Sainz's team-mate Lando Norris landed in F1 with a splash, reaching Q3 in each of his first two race weekends and executing a perfect strategy in the second of those to take a superb sixth place in Bahrain. The teenager has disappeared under the radar somewhat since those heroics, but that's no bad thing as he hones his craft at the top level in the shadow of the excellent Sainz.
An eighth place in Azerbaijan and an 11th at Monaco showed he is still capable of delivering strong results when the car allows him, and there is no reason why the McLaren can't once again impress at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve this weekend. Take the 11/4 on Sainz and Norris notching another double points finish for the resurgent Woking team.
