Sky Bet make Lewis Hamilton favourite at 6/4 with Valtteri Bottas 5/2, after Mercedes' strong start in Australia. Sebastian Vettel is out to 11/4 with Max Verstappen 8/1, Charles Leclerc 11/1 and the rest 40/1 and bigger.

F1 Insider: Betting Tips

1pt Daniil Kvyat to finish in the points at 7/5

Unacknowledged amid the hot takes from the Australian Grand Prix was the solid performance of Toro Rosso returnee Daniil Kvyat. The Russian was seventh-fastest in FP1, 11th in FP2, eighth in FP3 and fifth in Q1, before having his Q2 lap compromised and being forced to start 15th. From there he battled up to a creditable 10th, fending off Red Bull driver Pierre Gasly with ease in the final stages. Kvyat has points aplenty to prove after being demoted from Red Bull and sacked by Toro Rosso, and the early signs are that he now has both the mentality and machinery to make his mark on the season. At a chunky odds-against price, he's worth backing for another top 10 finish.

1pt Romain Grosjean to finish on the podium at 33/1

We suggested backing Kevin Magnussen in this market for the season-opening Australian Grand Prix two weeks ago and the Dane delivered a spirited run to sixth place, largely untroubled by his midfield rivals. We can apply the same reasoning here to his Haas team-mate Romain Grosjean, who looks slightly underrated at 33/1 to extend an excellent record in Bahrain. Grosjean has always punched above his weight at the Sakhir track, marking his debut appearance with a podium finish for Lotus in 2012 and repeating the feat 12 months later, while his first season at Haas in 2016 saw him take "best of the rest" honours behind the Mercedes, Ferraris and Red Bulls. We'll need attrition among the front six to land this but the price justifies the bet.
