Man Utd transfer targets: Griezmann and Rodriguez?

In part one of our look at what next season's title contenders need, we look at Manchester United's five potential targets to help them win the Premier League.

By Scott Francis

Jose Mourinho may have won the EFL Cup and added the Europa League to his CV, securing Champions League football in the process, but Manchester United certainly have work to do to land the top prizes.

The fans will expect a Premier League title challenge next season, with further summer spending expected to help them reach that aim.

This is time for Mourinho to build a team in his imagine, a team that play his way and win trophies his way.

Here's a look at five players who could help deliver that vision and their odds to move in Sky Bet's Transfer Specials...

James Rodriguez (Real Madrid) - 30/100 with Sky Bet

The rumours are that this deal is all but done and it would certainly create excitement around Old Trafford.

Despite never really being trusted by Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid, he has shown his talent in short bursts, with the 14 goals and 15 assists in his first season, while even this term he’s scored eight goals and provided six assists despite making just 13 starts.

Where the Colombian would slot in at Old Trafford remains to be seen, with Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba all vying for positions in the attacking midfield department.

Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester) - 2/1 with Sky Bet

Should David De Gea finally make his move back to Spain and Real Madrid then there will be a need for a new goalkeeper at Old Trafford.

They need look no further than the son of legendary stopper Peter, with Schmeichel racking up 29 clean sheets in the Premier League over the last three seasons despite Leicester struggling for much of two of those campaigns.

He has also proved his maturity this season despite the Foxes’ problems, making just one error leading to a goal according to Premier League stats.

Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid) - 1/5 with Sky Bet

This is one transfer saga that has been rumbling on for years and finally a resolution is expected this summer.

The French forward is one of the most sought-after talents in Europe, elavating his worth by clearing the 20-goal mark in each of his three seasons with Atletico.

Unlike Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who plays with his back to goal, Griezmann is willing to run in between the lines, so should compliment the Swede even if he stays on.

Michael Keane (Burnley) - 1/3 with Sky Bet

The centre-back has enjoyed a fine season at Turf Moor, helping his club defy the odds to avoid relegation and establishing himself as a top Premier League player in the process.

Keane has indicated a willingness to leave East Lancashire, where he only has 12 months remaining on his contract, although Sean Dyche has stated the defender will not leave on the cheap.

The 24-year-old departed Old Trafford in 2015 but, with their world-record signing Paul Pogba, United have shown they are not shy of bringing former youth players back at an inflated price.

Bernardo Silva (Monaco) - 3/1 with Sky Bet

Monaco’s young stars have been linked with pretty much every top club in Europe after an impressive season.

The 22-year-old is still developing but has managed 10 goals and 10 assists this season, helping his side to the Ligue 1 title and reach the Champions League semi-finals.

This is the first season Silva has made it into double figures in both brackets, so represents somewhat of a gamble, but his talent will certainly be sought after this summer.
