The former Swedish international scored with a volleyed roundhouse kick from Jonathan dos Santos' lofted pass in the 43rd minute of LA Galaxy's 5-3 defeat to Toronto in the MLS.

Afterwards Ibrahimovic told TSN: "Obviously it's not good to lose ... but I'm happy for Toronto because they'll be remembered as my 500th victim.

"I was close to the goal. It reminds me of a goal I did in Ajax. It came from a cross and I turned around and hit it. I was just trying to hit the goal and it went in.

The only active players to reach this milestone are Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Ibrahimovic has scored 62 goals at international level and 438 during his club career for Malmo (18), Ajax (48), Juventus (26), Inter (66), Barcelona (22), AC Milan (56), PSG (156), Manchester United (29) and LA Galaxy (17).
