Leroy Sane could still be on the move to Bayern Munich this summer with his new agent claiming the Bavarian giants are the “only club” the winger could imagine joining to fulfil his dream of winning the Champions League.
Bookmakers have cut Sane’s odds on joining Bayern Munich after his new agent Damir Smoljan talked to Sport Bild in Germany and made it pretty clear that a move is a distinct possibility.
Sane hasn’t played for Pep Guardiola’s side since picking up an ACL injury in the Community Shield last August, but he was working towards a return to action just before the coronavirus pandemic closed sport down across Europe.
Guardiola said he was willing to let Sane leave last summer, but only for a huge £100-plus million fee, but after spending a season out injured, and with now just one year left on his contract, Sane could be available for a lot less.
There is no sign yet, of course, on when the next transfer window will open, but when it does, Sane will be one of the big names being talked about – and it’s clear Bayern is his favoured destination.
Man City may still win a revamped Champions League this season should it restart, but as it stands they’re still banned from European competition after that – and that could be a deciding factor in Sane’s thinking.
“Together with him we talk with Manchester City about what the next step could look like,” Smoljan told Sport Bild.
“The interest of Bayern is no secret. But other top clubs also contacted us about Leroy.
“Bayern is the only club in Germany that Leroy can imagine as the next step in his career. He sees there the requirements for achieving his big goal of winning the Champions League.”
