Sunday October 22

Everton v Arsenal

Team news

James McCarthy could make his first-team comeback in Everton's Premier League clash with Arsenal on Sunday having recovered from his knee injury.

Fellow midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin limped off during Thursday's 2-1 Europa League loss to Lyon but is expected to be able to feature in the contest at Goodison Park this weekend.

Wayne Rooney, Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka are set to return to the matchday squad after being rested for the game against the French side, along with Oumar Niasse, who was ineligible on Thursday.

Arsene Wenger will make a raft of changes but will be without forward Danny Welbeck.

The Gunners won 1-0 at Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League on Thursday but a host of first-team players did not travel to Serbia and will return at Goodison Park, while Wenger will hope both Laurent Koscielny and Aaron Ramsey will be fit enough to be in contention.

The likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette will be in line to start but Welbeck (groin) is missing, as are Calum Chambers (hip), Shkodran Mustafi (hamstring) and Santi Cazorla (ankle).

Everton squad: Pickford, Stekelenburg, Williams, Keane, Jagielka, Holgate, Martina, Baines, Schneiderlin, Gueye, Besic, McCarthy, Klaassen, Sigurdsson, Rooney, Davies, Vlasic, Lookman, Mirallas, Sandro, Calvert-Lewin, Niasse.

Arsenal squad: Cech, Ospina, Mertesacker, Holding, Koscielny, Monreal, Debuchy, Bellerin, Nelson, Kolasinac, Maitland-Niles, Ramsey, Wilshere, Xhaka, Elneny, Coquelin, Ozil, Giroud, Walcott, Sanchez, Iwobi, Lacazette.

Opta Statistics

  • Everton have won two of their last four Premier League home games against Arsenal (D1 L1), having failed to win any of the previous six against them at Goodison Park.
  • Arsenal have won 11 Premier League away games against Everton – only at West Ham and Aston Villa (12 each) have they won more.
  • There has been a red card in three of the last four Premier League meetings between these sides (Laurent Koscielny in May 2017, Phil Jagielka in December 2016 and Gareth Barry in October 2015).
  • Arsenal have beaten Everton more times than any other club has beaten another in English Football League history (94 wins).
  • Arsene Wenger has beaten Everton 30 times in all competitions as Arsenal manager – more than he has against any other side during his time at the Gunners.
  • Only Crystal Palace (29) have conceded more Premier League goals away from home than Arsenal (26 – level with Bournemouth) in 2017.
  • Since the start of last season, Arsenal have both given away and conceded 11 goals from the penalty spot, more than any other current Premier League side.
  • Everton have won just eight points this season; their worst start to a Premier League season through the first eight games since 2008-09 under David Moyes (also eight points).
  • Everton have scored just five Premier League goals this season – two fewer than their former striker Romelu Lukaku has netted alone for Manchester United this term (7). Everton’s five goals have come from 92 shots (5.4 per cent), compared to Lukaku scoring seven times from 32 shots (21.9%).
  • Wayne Rooney’s first Premier League goal was against Arsenal in October 2002 – he has scored more Premier League goals against the Gunners than any other player (11).
  • Rooney’s three Premier League goals this season have been worth four points for Everton – last season he scored five league goals for Manchester United and they were worth only two points for the Red Devils.

Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool

Team news

Danny Rose could make his first Premier League appearance in almost nine months when Tottenham host Liverpool on Sunday.

Rose has been out with a knee injury and is unlikely to start at Wembley but could be named among the substitutes. Ben Davies has recovered from illness and Dele Alli is back after serving a Champions League suspension.

Mousa Dembele (hip) and Victor Wanyama (knee) are both out, however, while the game will also come too soon for Erik Lamela, who is close to overcoming an injury to his hips.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is set for a recall, meaning James Milner could miss out despite his impressive midweek performance.

Simon Mignolet will return in goal and Joe Gomez could come into defence as Jurgen Klopp continues to rotate his young full-backs.

Tottenham squad: Lloris, Vorm, Gazzaniga, Rose, Davies, Walker-Peters, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Sanchez, Foyth, Trippier, Aurier, Dier, Sissoko, Georgiou, Oakley-Boothe, Alli, Eriksen, Son, Llorente, Kane.

Liverpool squad: Mignolet, Gomez, Lovren, Matip, Moreno, Henderson, Can, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Coutinho, Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Klavan, Robertson, Milner, Grujic, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sturridge, Solanke.

Opta Statistics

  • After a run of four wins and a draw between 2010 and 2012, Spurs are winless in their last nine Premier League games against Liverpool (W0 D3 L6).
  • Liverpool are unbeaten in their last four away league games against Spurs (W2 D2), conceding just one goal in that time and netting nine themselves.
  • Wembley Stadium could become the 53rd different ground that Liverpool have won a Premier League game at – their current record of 52 is the highest of any club in the competition.
  • There have been 140 goals scored in Premier League matches between Tottenham and Liverpool, two goals shy of the current record set by both Everton/Man Utd and Chelsea/Tottenham (142).
  • This fixture has also seen a Premier League record of nine own goals scored – three of those were netted by Jamie Carragher in Spurs’ favour, which is the same tally of goals that he scored for Liverpool during his 508-game Premier League career at the club.
  • After winning his first two meetings with Liverpool in March and September 2013 with Southampton, Mauricio Pochettino has failed to win any of his subsequent seven Premier League games against the Reds (D3 L4). Only against Chelsea (5) has he lost more Premier League games than versus Liverpool (4).
  • This exact fixture was Jurgen Klopp’s first-ever Premier League game as a manager, back on October 17th 2015. Since that date, Liverpool have won 137 Premier League points, which is the sixth best tally in this period and 23 fewer than Spurs; who have the most in this timeframe (160).
  • Harry Kane hasn’t scored in either of his Premier League home appearances against Liverpool (173 mins) – the only side he’s faced more often without finding the net at home in the competition is Crystal Palace (three apps, 269 minutes).
  • Kane has had 28 shots (with 10 on target) in home Premier League games this season without finding the net. By contrast, in away games Kane has had 22 shots with nine on target and found the net six times.
  • Liverpool have won 61 per cent of their Premier League games in which Sadio Mane has started since the start of the 2016-17 season, compared to 40 per cent when he’s not been in their starting XI. The Senegalese forward has also scored the most Premier League goals for the Reds since his debut (16).
  • Since making his Premier League debut in September 2013, Christian Eriksen has been directly involved in more goals in the competition than any other midfielder (74 – 34 goals, 40 assists).
