Friday June 19

Norwich v Southampton (1800, Sky Sports and Pick)

  • Norwich have lost just one of their seven home Premier League games against Southampton (W4 D2 L1), a 5-4 defeat in April 1994.
  • Southampton are looking to complete a top-flight league double over Norwich for the first time, with this the 22nd season they’ve met in England’s top division.
  • The last five Premier League meetings between Norwich and Southampton have been won by the home side, a run stretching back to August 2013.
  • Norwich have won two of their last three Premier League home games (L1), as many as they had in their first 11 at Carrow Road this season. However, the Canaries are looking to secure back-to-back home wins in the same season in the competition for the first time since January 2016 – the second game of which was against Southampton.
  • Following a five-game unbeaten run in the Premier League, Southampton have lost five of their last seven in the competition (W2). Away from home, Southampton have lost their last two Premier League games, last losing more consecutively in December 2018 (4).
  • Southampton have won each of their last six Premier League games against promoted sides, as many as they had in their previous 23 such games in the competition (W6 D7 L10). It’s Saints’ longest ever winning run against such sides in the competition.
  • Norwich have the lowest shot conversion rate of any side in the Premier League this season, with the Canaries converting just 25 of their 335 efforts so far (7.5%).
  • Only the current top four clubs have won more away Premier League games than Southampton this season (6). Indeed, only in 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 (7) have Southampton won more away games in a Premier League campaign.
  • Norwich’s Emiliano Buendía has provided seven assists in the Premier League this season, the most of any player yet to score themselves in the competition so far this term.
  • Southampton forward Danny Ings has scored just one goal in his last seven Premier League games, failing to find the net in each of his last three. He had scored 10 goals in 11 Premier League games prior to this run.

Tottenham v Manchester United (2015, Sky Sports)

  • Tottenham Hotspur have lost their last two Premier League games against Manchester United, last losing three in a row back in October 2010 (four in a row).
  • Manchester United are looking to record consecutive away Premier League wins against Spurs for the first time since a run of six in a row between September 2001 and February 2007.
  • This will be Manchester United’s first ever Premier League visit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Red Devils have so far won at every London ground in which they’ve played in the Premier League, one of just four clubs to have done so (along with Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham).
  • Tottenham have never won a competitive match in June, drawing 1-1 with Barnsley in the second tier in 1947, losing 0-2 against Luzern in the 1995 Intertoto Cup, and losing last season’s Champions League final against Liverpool.
  • Manchester United’s only previous competitive matches in June came in the 1965 Fairs Cup semi-final, with the Red Devils losing both legs against Ferencváros.
  • Tottenham lost their last home league game, 2-3 against Wolves. The last time they lost back-to-back home league games was in January 2019, with those defeats coming against Wolves and Manchester United.
  • Manchester United are unbeaten in five Premier League games, winning three and drawing two. The Red Devils have kept four clean sheets in that run, as many as they had in their previous 35 Premier League games.
  • No side has kept fewer clean sheets in the Premier League than Tottenham this season (4). The last time they’d kept as few clean sheets after 29 Premier League games was in 200607 (also 4), when they also conceded in their 30th game that term.
  • Tottenham are averaging just 12.1 shots per game in the Premier League this season, their lowest on record across a single campaign in the competition (since 1997-98). However, their shot conversion rate is 13.4%, their highest on record in a single campaign (also since 1997-98).
  • As Tottenham manager, José Mourinho has lost all three of his league games against sides he’s formerly managed (1 v Man Utd, 2 v Chelsea). In his previous 16 league games against his former clubs in Portugal and England, he only lost twice (W9 D5).
  • Since his Premier League debut, Bruno Fernandes has been involved in more goals in the competition than any other Manchester United player (2 goals, 3 assists), while he’s also created the most chances (11) and had the most shots (19) of any player at the club.

Saturday June 20

Watford v Leicester (1230, BT Sport)

  • Watford have won their last three home Premier League games against Leicester City, with each victory coming via a 2-1 scoreline.
  • Leicester have won just two of their last 10 league visits to Watford (D1 L7), winning most recently during their title-winning season in 2015-16.
  • Nine of the 11 Premier League meetings between Watford and Leicester City have been won by the home side (82%), including each of the last seven. Among fixtures to have been played 10+ times, only Birmingham City vs Middlesbrough (90%) has seen a higher percentage of home wins.
  • 24% of the Premier League goals scored in fixtures between Leicester and Watford have been penalties (6/25), the highest ratio of any of the 469 fixtures to have seen at least 20 goals scored.
  • Watford have won just one of their last seven Premier League games (D2 L4), though that victory was in their last home game and came against runaway leaders Liverpool (3-0).
  • Since Nigel Pearson’s first home match in charge of Watford (22nd December), only Liverpool (18) have won more points in home Premier League games than the Hornets (13 – W4 D1 L1).
  • Leicester are winless in their last three Premier League away games (D1 L2), failing to score in their last two. The Foxes last went three away league games without a goal back in February 2017 under Claudio Ranieri (a run of four).
  • Watford have failed to score in a league-high 13 different Premier League games this season. However, they’re yet to go consecutive league games without a goal under Nigel Pearson.
  • Leicester striker Jamie Vardy has scored 99 Premier League goals; his next strike will see him become the 29th player to reach a century in the competition, and the 16th to do so for a single club.
  • Watford’s Troy Deeney has been involved in six goals in his last six Premier League home games (4 goals, 2 assists), as many as he had in his previous 25 at Vicarage Road (5 goals, 1 assist).

Brighton v Arsenal (1500, BT Sport)

  • Brighton lost their first Premier League meeting against Arsenal in October 2017 but are unbeaten in four games against the Gunners since (W2 D2).
  • Arsenal are winless in their last four away league games against Brighton (D1 L3), last winning there back in April 1981.
  • Brighton remain the only side without a win in the Premier League in 2020, with the Seagulls drawing six and losing three since the turn of the year.
  • Brighton are unbeaten in all three of their Premier League home games against the six ever-present sides in the competition this season, beating Spurs and Everton before drawing with Chelsea.
  • Arsenal have won just one of their last seven Premier League away games against south coast sides (D3 L3), winning 2-1 at Bournemouth in November 2018.
  • Arsenal have lost two of their last seven Premier League games against sides starting the day in the bottom six (W2 D3), more than they had in their previous 19 such games (W15 D3 L1).
  • Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 23 Premier League games kicking off at 3pm on a Saturday (W19 D4), since a 0-1 loss against West Brom in November 2015.
  • Brighton manager Graham Potter has won his last two games against Arsenal in all competitions, winning 2-1 away with both Östersunds FK in the Europa League in February 2018 and Brighton earlier this season. His only previous home game against the Gunners was a 3-0 defeat in February 2018 with Östersunds FK.
  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored both of Arsenal’s two Premier League goals at the Amex, scoring in March and December 2018. The last Gunners player to score their first three Premier League goals at a stadium was Ian Wright at The Dell in March 1994.
  • Adam Webster and Neal Maupay scored Brighton’s goals in their 2-1 win at Arsenal earlier in the season – no Brighton player has ever scored home and away against the Gunners in the same campaign before.

West Ham v Wolves (1730, Sky Sports)

  • West Ham United have lost their last three Premier League games against Wolves, with all defeats coming since the start of last season.
  • Wolves are looking to win consecutive away league games at West Ham for the first time, having won 1-0 at London Stadium last season.
  • West Ham have won just one of their last nine Premier League games (D2 L6), beating Southampton 3-1 in their last home game. They’ve not won back-to-back Premier League games at the London Stadium since September.
  • West Ham have lost more points from winning positions than any other side in the Premier League this season (22), while Wolves have won more points from losing positions than anyone else this term (21).
  • Starting with a 0-2 loss at Wolves in December, West Ham have lost their last eight Premier League games against sides starting the day in the top half of the table, with their last such victory coming at Chelsea in November.
  • Wolves are unbeaten in five Premier League games (W2 D3), keeping a clean sheet in four of those matches. They’d only kept a clean sheet in four of their first 24 league games this season.
  • Wolves are unbeaten in their last nine Premier League matches in London (W4 D5) since losing 0-5 at Fulham in March 2012. Only Liverpool (current run of 10 games) and Manchester United (3 separate runs of 10+ games) have gone on longer unbeaten runs in the capital among non-London sides in the competition.
  • Wolves manager Nuno Espírito Santo’s best 100%-win record against an opponent in his league managerial career is against West Ham, winning all three games against the Hammers.
  • In his English league career, West Ham’s Michail Antonio has only played more minutes against Arsenal (542) without scoring than he has against Wolves (516).
  • Wolves’ Diogo Jota has been involved in four goals in his last three Premier League appearances (3 goals, 1 assist), more than he had in his first 22 games this season (3 goals, 0 assists).

Bournemouth v Crystal Palace (1945, BBC)

  • Bournemouth have lost their last two Premier League games against Crystal Palace, though both defeats came away at Selhurst Park.
  • Crystal Palace are looking to complete a league double over Bournemouth for only the third time, previously doing so in 1935-36 and 1987-88; this is the 37th season they’ve met.
  • Since their 1-0 win at Chelsea in December, Bournemouth have taken just eight points from their subsequent 12 Premier League games (W2 D2 L8) – no side has won fewer points in that time. However, all eight of those points have been won in home games.
  • Crystal Palace have won their last three Premier League games, each by a 1-0 scoreline. They last won four in a row in August 2018, while they’ve never won four consecutive topflight games without conceding.
  • No side has kept fewer clean sheets in the Premier League this season than Bournemouth (4). Indeed, the Cherries have conceded at least once in each of their last 12 Premier League games, the longest current run in the competition.
  • Crystal Palace haven’t scored more than twice in any of their 29 Premier League games this season. The last time they managed this was on the final day of the 2018-19 season in a 5-3 win against Bournemouth.
  • So far in 2019-20, Bournemouth are averaging their lowest average possession (44.3%), lowest passing accuracy (75.9%), lowest shots on target per game (3.4) and highest shots on target faced per game (5.3) figures in any of their five Premier League campaigns.
  • Crystal Palace’s Patrick van Aanholt has scored more Premier League goals against Bournemouth than he has vs any other side (3). The Dutchman netted home and away against them for the Eagles last season.
  • After a run of 15 Premier League games without a goal, Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson has scored three in his last six. However, at home the England forward has netted just one goal in his last 10 Premier League matches.
  • Jordan Ayew’s eight Premier League goals have been worth 14 points to Crystal Palace this season. Crystal Palace’s record when Ayew scores this season is W6 D2 L0, with five of the Ghanaian’s strikes being the winning goal of the game.

Sunday June 21

Newcastle v Sheffield United (1400, Sky Sports and Pick)

  • Newcastle United have won their last four league games against Sheffield United, with their last defeat against the Blades coming in their last Premier League meeting at St James’ Park in November 2006 (0-1).
  • This is Sheffield United’s first away league visit to Newcastle since a Championship match in April 2010, losing 2-1.
  • In all competitions, Newcastle have won five of their last six home games against Sheffield United, losing the other in November 2006 in the Premier League. The Magpies have netted 14 goals across those five victories.
  • This will be just Newcastle’s second league match played in the month of June, with their other ending in a 2-4 defeat to Newport County in the second tier back in 1947.
  • Newcastle are the joint-lowest home scorers in the Premier League this season (12), and are yet to score more than twice in any of their 14 league games at St James’ Park this season.
  • Newcastle are looking to pick up back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since December, with one of their wins back then coming against Sheffield United.
  • Newcastle have kept a clean sheet in five of their last six home Premier League games against promoted sides (W2 D3 L1), with the exception being a 1-2 loss against Wolves last season.
  • Though he hasn’t scored in six appearances since December, Jonjo Shelvey has scored more than twice as many Premier League goals as any other Newcastle player this season (5), with his five goals coming from just 10 shots on target.
  • Among the 41 teams Newcastle manager Steve Bruce has faced at least 10 times in his managerial career, only against QPR (73.3%) does he have a better win ratio than against former side Sheffield United (72.7%), winning eight of his 11 games against them.
  • Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder’s only previous visit to Newcastle came in a League Cup tie in August 2015, with his Northampton side losing 1-4.

Aston Villa v Chelsea (1615, Sky Sports)

  • Aston Villa have lost nine of their last 10 Premier League games against Chelsea, winning the other at Villa Park in March 2014.
  • Chelsea have won their last five league games against Aston Villa, their best winning run against the Villans.
  • Aston Villa have taken just two points from their last 63 available against ‘big six’ Premier League sides, (W0 D2 L19), drawing with Man City in November 2015, and with Man Utd this season.
  • Aston Villa have won on six of the seven days of the week in the Premier League this season, with the only exception being Sunday. A win here will see them become just the second team in top-flight history to win a match on all seven days of the week within a season, after Tottenham in 1986-87.
  • After a run of eight straight wins, Chelsea lost their last Premier League game against a side in the relegation zone, going down 1-3 at Everton in December. They’ve not lost consecutive such games since January 2011 (vs Birmingham and Wolves).
  • Chelsea haven’t won any of their four away Premier League games in 2020 (D3 L1), having won seven of their previous nine on the road (L2). They last had a longer winless run away from home between September-December 2015 (7 games).
  • As a player, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard won just four of his 16 Premier League visits to Villa Park (D8 L4). His last appearance there with Chelsea saw him score twice in a 2-1 victory to become the Blues’ all-time leading goalscorer.
  • Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has scored in his last six games against Aston Villa in all competitions, netting eight goals; all appearances came while he was at Arsenal between 2013 and 2016.
  • Aston Villa keeper Pepe Reina has kept a clean sheet in 40% of his Premier League appearances against Chelsea (6/15). Of the 16 keepers to have faced the Blues at least 15 times in the competition, only Nigel Martyn has a better ratio against them (42% - 8/19).
  • Willian has scored in each of his last two games in all competitions for Chelsea, netting as many goals as he’d scored in his previous 23 for the Blues (2).

Everton v Liverpool (1900, Sky Sports and Pick)

  • Everton are winless in 18 Premier League meetings with Liverpool (D10 L8) since a 2-0 win back in October 2010 at Goodison Park.
  • Six of the last seven Premier League meetings between Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park have ended as draws, with Liverpool winning the other 1-0 in December 2016.
  • Everton have failed to score in their last three home league games against Liverpool, managing just 19 shots across those games. The Toffees last failed to score in four consecutive home games against their rivals back in April 1978 (six in a row).
  • In all competitions, Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 21 games against Everton – only against Aston Villa (22 between 1981-1992) have they had a longer such run against an opponent.
  • Liverpool’s only previous competitive match played in June was their Champions League final victory over Spurs last season. Meanwhile, this will be Everton’s first ever competitive match in the month.
  • Everton are winless in three Premier League games (D1 L2), though they are unbeaten in seven at Goodison Park (W4 D3) since losing 0-2 against Norwich in November.
  • Liverpool have been behind at some point in each of their last three Premier League games, after a run of 15 straight games without trailing. The Reds last went behind in four consecutive league games between May-August 2016.
  • Liverpool’s Divock Origi has scored five goals in seven appearances against Everton in all competitions, netting a brace in the reverse Premier League fixture at Anfield. The last Reds player to score more than once in both Merseyside league derbies in a season was Dick Forshaw in 1925-26 (hat-trick at Anfield, two at Goodison).
  • Michael Keane and Richarlison scored Everton’s goals in their 2-5 defeat against Liverpool in the reverse fixture. The last Everton player to score home and away against Liverpool in the same league season was Andrei Kanchelskis in 1995-96.
  • Just two of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah’s 16 Premier League goals this season have come in away games (12.5%). Of the 204 occasions of a player netting 15+ Premier League goals in a full campaign, the only player with a lower ratio of goals scored on the road was Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008-09 (11.1% - 2/18).

Manchester City v Burnley (2000, Sky Sports)

  • Manchester City have won their five home games against Burnley in all competitions under Pep Guardiola, scoring 19 goals and conceding just two.
  • Burnley are winless in 15 away league visits to Manchester City (D6 L9) since a 5-2 win in March 1963.
  • Manchester City have scored at least twice in each of their last 10 home games in all competitions against Burnley (W7 D3), netting 36 goals in total.
  • Man City have won seven of their last eight Premier League games on Mondays (D1), including each of the last four without conceding.
  • After a run of four consecutive Premier League defeats, Burnley are unbeaten in their last seven in the Premier League (W4 D3), their longest such run in over a year (8 games between December 2018-February 2019).
  • Burnley are looking to become just the fourth team to win away at both Manchester clubs in a single Premier League season, after Liverpool in 2008-09, Middlesbrough in 2003-04 and Everton in 1992-93.
  • In all competitions, Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope has conceded 17 goals against Manchester City – eight more than he’s conceded against any other side at the Clarets.
  • Man City striker Sergio Agüero has scored nine goals in nine appearances against Burnley in all competitions – he has scored in all five home games against the Clarets, netting on average every 47 minutes at the Etihad (six goals in 281 minutes).
  • Sean Dyche has lost eight games against Manchester City in all competitions as Burnley manager, only losing more often against Arsenal (10 defeats).
  • Man City manager Pep Guardiola has won 16 of his 18 Premier League home games against English managers (D1 L1). The only such manager to take points from Guardiola’s City at the Etihad is Roy Hodgson, winning 3-2 last season and drawing 2-2 this term.
  • Manchester City have won their five home games against Burnley in all competitions under Pep Guardiola, scoring 19 goals and conceding just two.
  • Burnley are winless in 15 away league visits to Manchester City (D6 L9) since a 5-2 win in March 1963.
  • Manchester City have scored at least twice in each of their last 10 home games in all competitions against Burnley (W7 D3), netting 36 goals in total.
