Best free agents clubs can still sign

Out of contract: Who are the best free agents now the transfer window has closed?

With the summer transfer window about to close we look at the best free agent players available to be signed on a free transfer beyond the September 1 deadline.

There have been plenty of big-name free agents snapped up already this summer.

Among them Ivan Perisic joined Tottenham from Inter Milan, Chelsea's Antonio Rudiger signed for Real Madrid as team-mate Andreas Christensen headed for La Liga rivals Barcelona and Paul Pogba rejoined Juventus from Manchester United.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Arsenal's Alexandre Lacazette returned to former club Lyon on a free transfer.

A little further afield Gareth Bale left Real Madrid and in an effort to be primed for Wales' first World Cup appearance since 1958 he signed for MLS club LAFC.

With the summer transfer window about to close in terms of players moving between clubs, those who are unattached become a precious commodity.

So who are some of the most noteworthy names still searching for a place to play for 2022/23?
