Bournemouth have accepted a £20m bid from Newcastle for striker Callum Wilson after Aston Villa dropped out of the running.
The Magpies were in a battle with Aston Villa for the services of the 28-year-old, but Dean Smith's side pulled out after Wilson made it know his preference was to join Steve Bruce at St James' Park.
Villa's bid to Bournemouth was slightly higher, but the Cherries will have to settle for about £1m less from Newcastle for their England international marksman.
Wilson, who scored 67 goals in 180 Bournemouth appearances during his six years with the club, will now be free to discuss personal terms with Newcastle.
The likes of Fulham and Tottenham have also been on Wilson's trail at various points this summer, but he's now off to Tyneside as part of a sudden rise in recruitment from Mike Ashley, with no signs of the long-running takeover saga being sorted any time soon.
Wilson could have former Cherries team-mate Ryan Fraser for company at Newcastle, with the free agent winger holding talks with Bruce on Friday as the club try to persuade him to move to the north east.
The 26-year-old Scotsman has not yet settled on his next move, having decided against playing for Bournemouth in the resumption of the Premier League - which was a possible factor in their eventual relegation.
Fraser had previously been linked with the likes of Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool, but Newcastle no looks like his only concrete offer on the table.
Another part of Newcastle's recruitment drive saw them agree a £13.5m fee with Norwich for left-back Jamal Lewis, who came close to joining Premier League champions Liverpool.
The Reds had a £10m offer rejected, and instead signed Kostas Tsimikas, but Lewis is now set to leave the Canaries for just a few million more after they reduced their previous £18m asking price they quoted Newcastle earlier this summer.
