Radamel Falcao staying with Monaco

Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has welcomed Radamel Falcao's new contract extension and he thinks it will act as a warning to other clubs.

Falcao committed his long-term future to Monaco with a new three-year deal on Thursday after scoring 30 goals in all competitions for the club last season.

The Colombia international's new deal is welcome news at Monaco, who face the prospect of losing a number of their best players over the course of the summer transfer window.

Bernardo Silva has already joined Manchester City in a £43million deal, while Kylian Mbappe, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Benjamin Mendy and Djibril Sidibe have all been linked with moves away from the club.

"I am very happy that Falcao has extended his contract with the club," Vasilyev said.

"I have always said that he is one of the best strikers in world football and this season he has proven that his talent is intact.

"It's satisfying to keep him as a goalscorer and a leader of our team. After this outstanding season, it demonstrates once again our ambition for the future."

Falcao enjoyed his most prolific season in front of goal since leaving Atletico Madrid as Monaco won the Ligue 1 title - eight points ahead of their nearest rivals Paris Saint-Germain.

Leonardo Jardim's side also reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and Falcao expects the club to challenge for silverware again next season.

"I am pleased to continue my adventure at AS Monaco," Falcao said.

"After this unbelievable season in which I got back to my best, all I wanted was to keep this great story going."I'm convinced that this project will be just as exciting next season as we aim for the best."
