Manchester United have turned their attentions to West Ham defender Issa Diop, with reports of them ready to offer £45m plus a player for the centre back.
The 22-year-old played 38 games for the Hammers last season, and famously impressed Jose Mourinho after his performance against the Red Devils under their former manager.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also seems suitably impressed enough to launch a bid for the French centre half, who moved to the London Stadium from Toulouse for £22 million last year.
Sky Sports news is reporting the offer of £45m plus an unnamed United player, but it is also understood that the Hammers aren't keen on in selling for anything less than £60m.
Defence, and centre back in particular, is a top priority of Solskjaer's Old Trafford rebuilding process, but he seems certain to miss out on his trio of top targets.
Ajax captain Matthijs De Ligt is looking more like signng for PSG or Barcelona, while Napoli want £100m for Kalidou Koulibaly and Leicester want £80m for Harry Maguire - and Manchester City would win that race as they're also interested in the England man.
Diop fits the profile of a younger, more promising type of player United are thought to be looking at - and they've already signed Wales starklet Daniel Jamesa from Swansea.
Crystal Palace full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is another who fits that profile and United are continuing their pursuit of the England Under-21 star having had an initial £40m rejected by the Eagles.
