Liverpool transfer news: Reds close to signing Nabil Fekir from Lyon

Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Lyon forward Nabil Fekir, with reports in France stating a deal has been agreed for a fee of around £53 million.

The 24-year-old scored 23 goals for Lyon last season and is part of Didier Deschamps’ France squad for the World Cup in Russia.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas was earlier quoted as saying that talks had hit a standstill, but Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards is thought to have managed to get things back on track as the Reds look to tie-up another big-money deal before the World Cup starts next week.

With Lyon captain Fekir seemingly having his heart set on a move to Anfield, and France coach Deschamps also keen to have his player’s future decided before going to Russia, the deal could likely be concluded on Friday.

France face the USA on Saturday before heading off to Russia so it is thought that Fekir could even undergo his Liverpool medical before the USA game.

Liverpool already have Naby Keita coming in next month for £52m along with Brazilian midfielder Fabinho for £39m as Jurgen Klopp looks to strengthen his midfield and attacking options ahead of what is a big season for the beaten Champions League finalists next season.

Who next for Liverpool?

After coming so close to Champions League glory and impressing at ties in the Premier League, Klopp and Liverpool owners FSG seem to be going for it next season and the spending doesn't look like stopping at Fekir.

A goalkeeper is Klopp's top priority after Loris Karius' nightmare in Kiev and Simon Mignolet heading out of the Anfield exit door this summer.

England's Jack Butland is favoured to sign for the Reds but Roma's Brazilian number one Alisson could be their top priority despite the heafty price tag that he'll come with.

Stoke's Swiss star Xherdan Shaqiri has recently gone odds-on to move to Merseyside after confirming he won't be staying with the Potters in the Championship.
