Arsenal 4-3 Leicester: Replay coverage of opening Premier League game

It was a breathless start to the first Premier League game of the 2017/18 season as Arsenal beat Leicester 4-3 at the Emirates. Replay our live blog.

FULL-TIME: ARSENAL 4-3 LEICESTER

90+5: And that's it. Wow. What a game. Arsenal out of jail, thanks to a huge slice of luck. Leicester unfortunate, having been more than a match for the Gunners.

Is this the type of result Arsenal need to really believe, or is it evidence that they're not good enough?

I started this game with no idea, I end it with no idea. What I do know is that was a sensational start to the Premier League season.

90+4: Respite for Arsenal as Simpson's heavy touch sees the hosts awarded a throw-in on halfway. One minute to go. Replays showing a handball in the run-up to Arsenal's equaliser by the way. Hard to blame officials but that's massive. It's intentional from Ozil, too.

90+3: More long balls from Leicester - absolutely the correct tactic - before Monreal does really well to step in and deny Vardy. He's the one Arsenal defender who has done all right.

90+2: Giroud and Lacazette combine, both having appeared to be offside, before finding Walcott who is definitely offside. Utterly breathless this, what a way to start the season.

Or is it? Is game of the season on day minus-one peaking a little early?

90+1: Almost an opening for Leicester as Vardy looks to nip in front of Cech, who does really well to collect.

90: Arsenal concede a free-kick on halfway and Monreal does well to head clear. Now a long throw-in from Fuchs and this time Oxlade-Chamberlain does really well.

Dean then comes to the rescue of Schmeichel, who is stranded on halfway as Arsenal take a quick throw and try to engineer a chance to shoot. It's a soft free-kick for the Foxes as five minutes are added.

89: It's still frenetic, this game. Arsenal are not so very good at killing things off, but fair play to them for conjuring a winning position out of this. Still work to do, though. Not sure Leicester deserve to lose, whatever that means, but then again if you concede four...

88: I've seen it all now: Arsenal defend a long throw with conviction and it is a raucous atmosphere inside the Emirates.

86: Arsenal are 1/16 now. I have no idea what's going on here.

85: Corner, Giroud, being fouled, nods in off the bar. If Arsenal sell him they have completely lost the plot.

GOAL! Giroud! Arsenal 4-3 Leicester

85: Almost! Schmeichel does really well to save after Lacazette smashes from close range having beaten two men.

84: Arsenal. So very Arsenal. No idea what happens next but there will either by a goal - not sure for which side - or some absurd sending off/penalty miss/plane flying overhead.

83: 16/1 winner for you as I work out how to spell the name of Leicester's substitute. Ramsey is unmarked at the back post, brings the ball down beautifully and prods into the corner. Killer instinct.

GOAL! Ramsey! Arsenal 3-3 Leicester

82: Iheanacho makes his Premier League debut for Leicester, replacing James who has done well on his first start in over two years but has nothing more to give.

Corner Arsenal as Ozil finds space before his cross is blocked by Morgan.

81: Xhaka has a go from fully 30 yards and it's deflected wide for Arsenal's seventh corner of the night. Leicester have defended them well and this time Ramsey is left to nod high and wide.

80: Vardy is isolated here as Leicester sit deep - and why not, it's working. Walcott's first meaningful contribution is a cross which doesn't beat Fuchs as Arsenal search for the killer pass.

79: The one bright spark from tonight for Arsenal has been Lacazette, who looks very classy. He's lucky on this occasion not to give away a free-kick but at least he's hounding Leicester when they have the ball. It's been a Sanchez-like performance but, like Sanchez, he needs help.

77: Xhaka tries an audacious outside-of-the-foot pass to Ozil but it runs long and Schmeichel can take all the time he wants to clear long towards Mahrez.

76: Brilliant from Lacazette and Bellerin as they combine down the left, but Ramsey loses out as his touch lets him down. Wenger increasingly frustrated.

75: Walcott now takes to the field, in place of Welbeck. All cards on the table for Arsenal.

74: Oxlade-Chamberlin steps in from the right and his powerful shot is heading towards the bottom corner, only to flick wide off the heel of Fuchs. From the corner, Leicester's Ndidi clears but here come Arsenal gain and Ozil should do better than to fire wide on the volley.

73: Arsenal now playing a 4-5-1, or something like that, with Ox right-back and Bellerin left for reasons which are not yet clear. Welbeck is the right-sided attacker, Lacazette the left, with Giroud - yet to get involved - playing centrally.

72: Change for Leicester now as Okazaki is replaced by Amartey.

71: Another chance for Arsenal, this time for Ozil as Lacazette sets him up perfectly. On his left foot, the German should do better than drag his shot into a Leicester defender from just inside the box.

70: Arsenal break down the left with Bellerin, who finds Lacazette in this wide-left role. He cuts it back to Xhaka but it's awkward and the Swiss can only volley into the arms of Schmeichel.

68: Lacazette moves wide, chips it in and Ramsey almost nods home. Can argue he was taken out by Fuchs and the Arsenal man is hurt, but on balance that sort of thing has to be allowed to happen.

67: Ramsey on for Elneny, Giroud for Holding. Attacking moves for Arsenal as well you'd expect. Ramsey is 16/1 to score next. You've seen worse bets, right?

66: Early-season signs of miscommunication as Kolanisac plays a ball to where Oxlade-Chamberlain no longer stands. Arsenal are preparing to bring on Ramsey and Giroud.

65: I've not said much of James and Ndidi tonight and that's because they've not had a great creative influence on the game. They have, however, shielded their defence really well and Ozil in particular has been forced to go looking for the ball deeper than he - and Wenger - would like.

63: Oxlade-Chamberlain forces a corner as Simpson steps in to block his attempted cross. Xhaka whips a dangerous ball in but Leicester clear and eventually win a throw when Bellerin can't keep the ball alive.

Changes soon, surely...

62: Beautiful from Arsenal as Welbeck exchanges passes with Elneny before putting Bellerin through, but Schmeichel does really well do get down to the feet of the Spaniard.

61: Arsenal have been better since the goal. Aside from their abject defending , the biggest disappointment was how they came out for the second half, given how they ended the first.

Leicester are buzzing around but Arsenal don't mind that and almost work a chance for Lacazette as the visitors drop deeper.

59: Space for Welbeck and he finds Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has moved central. His short is saved and Lacazette is just - and I do mean just - offside as he follows up.

58: Leicester are now Sky Bet's 11/10 favourites to get off to a winning start here. Arsenal are out to 100/30 but they are 4/9 to score again.

57: Arsenal lost 4-3 to Liverpool in their first game of last season. How can a side aiming for the title concede three goals at home as easily as this? Answer: they cannot.

56: Mahrez corner, Vardy header, and it's 3-2. It's a great cross but both Lacazette and Xhaka allow Vardy to simply run past them, attacking Monreal who can't do anything about it and is rightly furious.

GOAL! Vardy! Arsenal 2-3 Leicester

55: More careless passing - no, reckless passing - sees Leicester win it back in a dangerous area and Mahrez forces a save out of Cech. Corner to Leicester.

54: Arsenal yet to really get going here. They just look a little disjointed, Elneny and Xhaka in particular not sure where the other is. When Arsenal do get the ball forward to Welbeck, at last, his heavy touch ends in a Leicester free-kick.

53: Cech wins 'tackle of the night' according to Tyler and I must say that's superb anticipation from the Arsenal goalkeeper. Vardy was in there, but Cech races 40 yards off his line to slide in and put the ball out of play.

52: Oh, Ox. He runs 60 yards, beautifully weaving and ducking, until finally consenting to part with the ball. To a Leicester player. Sums him up I'm afraid.

51: Mahrez finds himself in space on the byline, but it's all too exciting and he lashes a left-footed strike out of play. Arsenal give it straight back though and Mahrez looks to get onto a cross, although he may well have been offside.

50: Mahrez turns on a euro and Oxlade-Chamberlain is probably fortunate to escape a caution for bringing him down having intended to do precisely that.

49: A lot of talk about how much of a specimen Kolasinac is, but these fellas haven't met our very own Chris Hammer. Very popular man at the Christmas party let me tell you.

Erm, where was I? Ozil fires wide from 20 yards.

48: Lovely footwork from Oxlade-Chamberlain but it's deep inside his own half, the problem Arsenal have with this system and their maverick square pegs, round holes approach to formations. Love you, Arsene.

46: Leicester get an early opportunity to cause further panic in the Arsenal defence as Fuchs throws from about 40 yards. Welbeck and Holding combine to clear before the latter does well to hook the ball to safety.

2049: Teams back on the field, tea just about consumed along with toffee crisp, the doyen of chocolate bars as far as I'm concerned. Here we go. I can't handle four more goals, just one will do.

2045: Back under way in a few minutes I suspect. Meanwhile, songs from adverts are by nature annoying, but that one from Carphone Warehouse is something else. What a whining load of tosh.

2042: Right, the betting.

Sky Bet make Arsenal 8/11 to go on and win, with Leicester at their pre-match 11/2 but the draw into 9/4.

Lacazette is 6/4 to score again, enhanced from 5/4, while Vardy is 9/2 in the same market.

It's 9/4 that both teams score in the second half, a penalty is 4/1, and it's 6/4 we have another goal by the 60th minute.

And I still don't know what's going to happen. Presumably no further goals.

2036: Watch this while I make a cup of tea, will you?

The Soccer Saturday Super Boost Returns!

HALF-TIME: Arsenal 2-2 Leicester

I need a lie down. What a breathless half of football. Leicester were excellent in the main, but a deft flick from Lacazette and some fortunate bounces for Welbeck's goal mean it's level. We thought there would be goals, but four? Solid start, Premier League. Well done.

45+2: What a time to score. Arsenal are patient, Ozil then lays in Lacazette and his attempted shot squeezes through to Kolasinac, who calmly rolls it for Welbeck to score into an empty net. Bizarre goal, full of fumbles and everyone thinking it was offside, which didn't appear to be the case.

GOAL! Welbeck! Arsenal 2-2 Leicester

45+1: Fuchs goes for a long throw and it almost embarrasses Cech by going directly in, but having just about got a hand to the ball, the Arsenal stopper is awarded a generous free-kick. Two minutes added on here.

45: Another corner to Leicester as Mahrez tries to go round Kolasinac. He takes the corner, and Monreal does well to nudge it away for a Leicester throw.

44: More alarm bells as Albrighton whips in a cross which Oxlade-Chamberlain is forced to glance behind. It's Albrighton again, this time from the right, but Arsenal clear before Holding gives it away. His worst half in an Arsenal shirt by some distance.

43: Oxlade-Chamberlain tries an ambitious ball through to Elneny, who can't keep it in with his head. A waste, as Arsenal struggle to work their angles against an impressively compact Leicester unit.

42: Arsenal want a penalty with cries of handball, but Ndidi was around a foot away from the ball when it struck his arm. It's just a corner, and Arsenal elect to go short. Leicester dropping deep here as Arsenal seek an equaliser.

41: Much more like it from the home side as, triggered by a beautiful cross-field ball from Xhaka, they break. Eventually, they work it down the right but there's a lack of movement as Leicester regather and they have to go left, where Oxlade-Chamberlain fires in a cross which is deflected behind by Maguire for a corner.

40: Approaching half-time and Leicester have gone favourites at 6/4, with Arsenal 15/8 and the draw 9/4. Click here for all the in-play odds.

38: Morgan goes through the back of Ozil around 40 yards out. Chance for Arsenal to at least apply some pressure of their own. They go short to Xhaka, whose shot is well-struck but can't find its way through a sea of blue shirts.

37: Arsenal give it away again in the centre of the field, and again it's Holding. Leicester again break, and again cross, but this time it's too deep. As they tend to do, Arsenal playing like a side trailing 1-0 with moments to go in a cup final, rather than showing any kind of composure. Holding in particular looks lost.

36: Alexis Sanchez looks nonplussed, to say the least. Abdominal strain, apparently. Hmm.

Vardy and Okazaki celebrate
Vardy and Okazaki celebrate

35: Arsenal win and then take a free-kick in a matter of seconds, but Ozil delays his ball to Welbeck who is a good two yards offside.

33: It's almost three. Holding gallops out of defence and gives the ball away to Fuchs, who bursts towards the byline and crosses to Okazaki. His header is inches wide of Cech's post.

32: Another chance for Leicester to cross and Mahrez's ball is only just too hard for Vardy. Arsenal appear shell-shocked here, they've hardly touched the ball since going behind.

29: Albrighton goes again and this time his cross is perfect, splitting defence and goalkeeper, with Vardy on hand to blast into the roof of the net from close range.

Arsenal switched to a back-three at the end of last season and it worked wonders. But without their three first-choice centre-backs, this is hopeless defending. Holding offered nothing in terms of stopping the cross, and Monreal and Kolasinac were far too far apart.

GOAL! Vardy! Arsenal 1-2 Leicester

28: Leicester's turn now to slow the game down and attack down the left, but this time Holding does well to cut out an Albrighton ball in behind.

Meanwhile, Celtic lead at Partick.

27: Welbeck finds himself in space and while his first attempt is blocked, the ball is back at his feet. He goes wide, wider still and then cuts it back, but Maguire is again there to clear.

Shortly after, Kolasinac bursts into the box and volleys, only for Schmeichel to stick out a hand and guide it wide for a corner which comes to nothing.

25: Arsenal starting to dominate possession although Leicester appear fairly content to allow them to do so as Lacazette concedes a free-kick.

Leicester celebrate
Leicester celebrate

24: Mahrez is told to get up having gone down under a nothing of a challenge, which allows Arsenal to break quickly. The lively Lacazette is marginally offside, though.

23: Quick interplay and Ozil's pass sets up Welbeck, whose shot is blocked by Maguire. The Leicester defender has been involved in everything from the pre-match interviews, to securing his first Premier League assist in Leicester blue and now blocking what appears an otherwise certain goal.

22: Arsenal are very Arsenal as we approach the half's midway point: in attack, lively and creative. In defence and across the two holding midfielders, uneasy and constantly under pressure. Leicester are pressing as a unit, no different to the way the title-winning side of two seasons ago did. And it's working so far.

20: First yellow card of the season? No, Maguire is given a warning by referee Mike Dean and that's probably fair - one of those, he takes out Lacazette but only because the Frenchman produces a speedy pivot and go. Mistimed, not malicious, free-kick Arsenal just inside the opposition half.

18: Vardy looks sharp, working those channels as he loves to do. Surely more goals in this game with Leicester really impressing so far, but Lacazette and Ozil in particular looking sharp for the Gunners.

Arsenal attack down the left through Oxlade-Chamberlain and his cross almost falls to Bellerin, who leaves a leg in and concedes a free-kick with a foul on Albrighton.

17: Okazaki is penalised for pushing as some colleagues in the office see fit to play some 'tunes'. Still 0-0 at Partick, by the way.

15: Oxlade-Chamberlain is put off by Simpson as he attempts to get on the end of a pass from Ozil - important work from the Foxes defender. Shortly after it's Ozil's turn to try to get on the end of a dinked ball behind the Leicester defence, but he's just offside.

14: Mahrez works some space but his cross isn't deep enough, before Okazaki goes long with his as Okazaki lurks. Arsenal break but Leicester are organised and a one-two is intercepted.

12: A definite slowing of the pace here and it's Leicester's turn to knock the ball around before Okazaki is clumsily dumped to the ground by Holding, who hasn't settled into this yet.

Alexandre Lacazette nods home
Alexandre Lacazette nods home

11: Ozil's first real contribution and the experienced German is wise to just slow things down a little. Arsenal can do without this relentless tempo; they'd surely be better served trying to pick apart their opponents as Bellerin makes something of nothing and wins a corner which sails all the way to the opposite touchline for a Leicester throw.

9: It's Leicester who look sharpest here as Vardy almost gets on the end of an Okazaki flick. From the throw-in they get two chances to cross but one attempt fails to clear the front post and the second goes way long. Can we breathe in yet?

8: Sky Bet make Arsenal 1/2, the draw 100/30 and Leicester 11/2 - it's pretty much as you were, as you'd expect after the start we've had. They also quote Xhaka to be carded at 15/8 as Oxlade-Chamberlain blasts over from 20 yards.

7: Arsenal conceded 44 goals last season - far too many for a title push - and the early signs here aren't particularly good as their makeshift defence is all at sea.

5: You missed this, didn't you? Arsenal sloppy defending a long throw and then a short corner. Okazaki nods in having been teed up with Cech nowhere, having been caught out, presumably expecting the cross to go out of play before new signing Maguire nodded it back across goal.

GOAL! Okazaki! Arsenal 1-1 Leicester

3: Chance for Leicester and it falls to Mahrez, whose technique with a half-volley is sublime, but the shot fizzes past the post. After that naff opening 60 seconds this has been quite lively and Leicester are threatening on the break already.

2: Arsenal lead and it's Lacazette who scores with what's surely his first Premier League touch. Arsenal begin down the left but switch it to Bellerin, who tees up Elneny for a cross which Lacazette expertly guides into the bottom corner. What a start for Arsenal.

GOAL! Lacazette! Arsenal 1-0 Leicester

1: Got carried away, but the game begins. Arsenal kicking left-to-right, which is entirely superfluous information but nothing else has happened bar a series of headers and a failed through-ball attempt from Okazaki.

Oh, wait, Arsenal free-kick as Welbeck breaks. It's on halfway.

WE'RE UNDER WAY!

1943: A final reminder of the teams. Lacazette makes his Premier League debut, Ozil is passed fit despite an ankle issue. For the visitors, Mahrez starts, not that he appears particularly happy about that as the teams take to the pitch. So does Matty James, 800-odd days since his last start.

Arsenal: Cech, Holding, Monreal, Kolasinac, Bellerin, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Elneny, Xhaka, Ozil, Welbeck, Lacazette

Leicester: Schmeichel, Simpson, Morgan, Maguire, Fuchs, Mahrez, Ndidi, James, Albrighton, Okazaki, Vardy

1941: Celtic are also in action tonight - they're heavy odds-on favourites away at Partick and I'll keep you on top of the score whenever possible. Lots elsewhere, too, including Lyon at Rennes in France, but let's narrow the focus to Britain and chiefly the Emirates, where the teams are about to take to the pitch.

Premier League football is minutes away. It's taken me all season to shake that May feeling of contempt towards football, but I am ready. A fickle beast who's nice today. Fischerspooner. Great song.

1937: Worrying that I've not been warm enough in my welcoming of Leicester fans. Good people, those of Leicester.

Kasper Schmeichel's #One2Eleven

1935: Danny Ings has scored for Liverpool's development side tonight. Not sure why but that felt interesting as I began typing it.

Here at the Emirates (well, there at the Emirates), kick-off is just 10 minutes away.

No change to the betting, with Arsenal 1/2, Leicester 11/2 and the draw 7/2, and that all looks about right to me.

Along with the Price Boosts we mentioned earlier, Sky Bet have loads of #RequestABet options including Vardy to score and Xhaka to be booked at 8/1, Mahrez to score, 4+ corners for each team and Kolasinac to be carded at 28/1, and Lacazette to score first and Fuchs to be shown the first card at 33s.

1930: The Sporting Life Accumulator. There, I've said it. Why am I sweating, suddenly?

No, so, right, well... you know what happened. Last year, it just... things didn't work out. It, well, there was that 96th-minute... yeah. We lost. A lot.

BUT WE TRY AGAIN. The Sporting Life Acca II: This Time It's Charitable. Read more about it here.

1927: Craig Shakespeare just said "recruitment is one of the biggest parts of running a football club" or similar with the gravitas of a scientist delivering a key-note speech. These are the people who succeed in life, folks.

1924: A good friend messaged earlier.

"Have you played Fantasy Football?"

My first reaction was "No, I am a 31-year-old father," but I've come to my senses. It's free, I can forget about it if things go wrong, but if they go right I could win something - including a Roy Keane shiny sticker which is top prize in our three-way private league. Yikes, when you type it out, a three-way private league becomes awfully depressing. Anyone want to join? No? Me neither.

Should you wish to play Fantasy Football (not with us, we're an insular bunch actually and I won't give you the code), click here for details of how to join the Sporting Life league where there's a computer up for grabs or something.

1919: You'd presumably rather hear and see Dale Tempest and Jamie Redknapp shooting the breeze, so here you are. How relaxed do they both look? Born to be in front of the camera. Do wonder what the throw behind Dale is hiding mind you.

Jamie Redknapp's Pre-Season Premier League Preview

1917: Been watching Top of the Lake lately, and it paints a pretty dreary picture of New Zealand and its inhabitants to be honest. Yet here, in the real world, Gary Neville has just chatted to a newly-married New Zealander who managed to say 'first time we've been fifth in 20 years' and make it sound like a positive when discussing his beloved Arsenal. Tremendous effort, and what a way to spend a honeymoon.

1913: I've not had a bet. There are 33 minutes to go so I'm not ruling it out, but I tend not to bet on Arsenal games at the best of times and with much to learn here, that's the aim for me.

However, opportunities both here and for the weekend ahead are plentiful if you're that way inclined and it's hard not to be drawn towards Sky Bet's Soccer Saturday Super Boost.

'Why Super?' they ask, and the answer is this: the Chelsea, Everton, Palace treble was 5/2. Then it was 4/1. Now it's 6/1. Super.

Of course, that's for tomorrow but there's always a chance the price gets cut and if you want to get on early, you can do so here.

1909: Speaking of guitar-driven pop (don't call it anything else), a promise is a promise...

Leicester City FC Parade: Kasabian surprise fans with triumphant homecoming show

1907: My colleague David John, sat close by and apparently listening to some kind of guitar-driven pop, is our Chief Football Tipster and with good reason - he is an excellent judge.

He's gone with Ndidi to find the net today and does fancy goals, with Arsenal to win and both teams to score his headline selection.

"Both teams to score is rejected at odds-on in favour of the hosts winning with both teams on the scoresheet and while some uncertainty remains within the Gunners’ back four, Wilfred Ndidi could be worth a speculator in the anytime goalscorer betting.

"The Nigerian got better and better for the Foxes as last season progressed following his January arrival from Genk and he looked as sharp as any player on the pitch last weekend against Monchengladbach.

"He unleashed a smart volley that was well saved while his willingness to shoot from distance makes him a threat to beat Petr Cech in a fixture which the home side are ultimately fancied to edge."

If you want the full preview you can click here, but do come back.

1904: Neville and Carragher at it already. Carragher trying to have the strongest possible opinion on all matters, Neville opting for a more level-headed approach.

Some facts for you now, anyway. First, one from me: there were 10 goals in the two games between these sides when Leicester won the league. Last year, there was just one - and that was an own-goal from the absent Robert Huth.

And now, Opta...

  • Leicester are on a 21-game winless run against Arsenal in the Premier League (D7 L14), with their only win against the Gunners coming in their first ever Premier League encounter in November 1994 (a 2-1 victory).
  • Arsenal have won each of their last 10 Premier League home encounters with Leicester City; their joint longest winning streak at home against a single opponent.
  • Jamie Vardy has scored Leicester City's last three goals against Arsenal in the Premier League, scoring the opening goal twice. However, he is yet to end up on the winning side.
  • The Gunners have won only one of their last seven opening day Premier League fixtures, losing three of the last four (W1 D3 L3).
  • Arsenal have collected more opening day red cards than any other Premier League side (6), with Laurent Koscielny getting two of the last three (2010-11 v Liverpool, 2013-14 v Aston Villa).

1856: Off to dig out a Kasabian video. Or maybe Showaddywaddy.

1855: Promise I'll start at least pretending to be impartial soon, but this video is wonderful.

Per Mertesacker v Arsène Wenger | Emirates Airline

1852: Sky Bet make Arsenal 1/2 favourites, with the draw 7/2 and Leicester 11/2. There was money for the visitors this morning but it's drying up now, despite Mahrez starting.

Mahrez features in a Price Boost - it's 16/1 that he scores in a Leicester win - while those who expect goals can have 15/2 that both Lacazette and Vardy find the net.

Arsenal to win 3-1 is a 12/1 chance, with Leicester 66/1 to win by the same scoreline, while Welbeck to score and Arsenal to win is enhanced from 6/4 to 5/2.

Welbeck - Welbs - scored the winner when Arsenal came from behind to beat Leicester 2-1 in February 2016. That was the last time I recall thinking Arsenal might win a Premier League title.

1848: Teams in full...

Arsenal: Cech, Holding, Monreal, Kolasinac, Bellerin, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Elneny, Xhaka, Ozil, Welbeck, Lacazette

Leicester: Schmeichel, Simpson, Morgan, Maguire, Fuchs, Mahrez, Ndidi, James, Albrighton, Okazaki, Vardy

1845: Here we go - Arsenal name Lacazette up front, with Ozil and Welbeck behind. Across the middle, it's Elneny and Xhaka with Oxlade-Chamberlain and Bellerin at wing-back. Holding, Monreal and Kolasinac make up the back-three with Cech in goal.

Leicester expected soon but the news is Mahrez starts.

1841: I'm not the most famous Arsenal fan, obviously. That's surely Cat Stevens. Or Rachel Stevens. Or Corbyn, who has apparently graduated into no-need-for-first-name territory.

Others include Bernard Butler, once of Suede, which feels like a good excuse to further force my tastes upon you. LISTEN.

Suede - Beautiful Ones

1839: As we await team news, I can confirm that I am the ideal man for this job* (*of the limited options available), as an Arsenal fan who was born in Leicester Royal Infirmary. That's not enough for you to steal my identity, is it? Surely not.

No split loyalties here mind you: Leicester have won a Premier League in recent memory, Arsenal most certainly haven't, and although this is a marathon, another false start here and the hope which will (quietly) buzz around the Emirates will soon disappear.

More mixed metaphor on the way.

1835: Good evening and welcome along to our coverage of Arsenal v Leicester, as the Premier League gets under way in little more than an hour at the Emirates Stadium.

This brave/terrifying new world we live in brings you a Friday night curtain-raiser between the 2015/16 one-two, who suffered predictable dips last season.

Arsenal begin this campaign as usual with a strangely comforting blend of hope and fear while Leicester embark on their first full campaign of the post-Ranieri era. To be honest, I'm not sure what we should expect from either.
