Leicester v Liverpool

It would have taken a brave person to predict that Leicester would sit above Liverpool in the table after 23 games. It's not that the Foxes are a bad side, far from it, but Liverpool were so dominant in the Premier League last season that it looked like they would lead the way for a couple more years at least.

That's not the case though, and numerous injuries throughout the campaign has seriously had an impact The influential Virgil van Dijk is joined by other centre-backs Joe Gomez and Joel Matip in being ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak joined on deadline day and there is a chance one could feature here after Liverpool were convincingly beaten 4-1 by Manchester City at Anfield. The form over the last ten games has the Reds sat in 12th while Leicester are 4th over the same period.

Given the contrasting form of the two teams, it's a surprise to see Leicester, who have now welcomed Jamie Vardy back from injury, as big 5/2 outsiders for victory here. Just one of their last 13 games in all competitions have ended in defeat; Liverpool's record over the same period has seen five losses.

Taking the double chance in the home side's favour comes out at a decent 4/5 with Sky Bet, and that's a bet that can't be completely disregarded with it near enough hitting even money, but it's worth backing Leicester for the win because of the odds on offer.

Even in their only defeat across recent weeks, Leicester still saw the better of the chances with the Infogol Expected Goals battle won by a scoreline of 2.18 to 1.97. While the full-time result is what really matters, what it shows is that they did have opportunities to score, and if Vardy was on the pitch, they perhaps would have scored more than once.

Goals have been a feature of games at the King Power during Leicester's run though. They scored twice in three of their last five while two of those games have seen over 3.5 goals hit. For Liverpool, they've seen four or more goals in each of their last four away in all competitions.

With their defensive issues, and this impressive Leicester attack, it will be difficult for them to keep the hosts out and while the Foxes are good value in the outright market, it's also worth a punt on the home team securing the win with four or more goals in the contest.

Betfair's same game multi gives this a price of 9/1 with anything between that and 8/1 available with other bookmakers. If we look at Leicester's previous meetings with those around them at the top, they beat Manchester City 5-2 while there was a 2-2 draw against United.

For Liverpool, that run mentioned above saw contests against City, Tottenham and West Ham and the higher goals line was hit. The Reds are so shaky at the moment and, as Jurgen Klopp mentioned last weekend, the aim for his side now is just to reach the top-four.

Leicester need to ensure that this season delivers Champions League football considering the path they have been on under Brendan Rodgers' guidance. Victory over Liverpool won't ensure that will happen, but it will put them in a far more comfortable position.

Score prediction: Leicester 3-1 Liverpool (Sky Bet odds: 22/1)
