England squad for Nations League: Jack Grealish called up by Gareth Southgate after Marcus Rashford & Harry Winks pull out

Jack Grealish has been called up to the England senior squad for the first time after both Marcus rashford and Harry Winks pulled out.

Aston Villa skipper Grealish was originally left out by Gareth Southgate for the upcoming two Nations League fixtures but has now been given his chance thanks to injuries.

Manchester United striker Rashford has withdrawn with an ankle injury, while Tottenham midfielder Winks has also been forced to return to his club.

Many believed Grealish's form for Villa merited inclusion in the squad, and his absence looked to be a clear signal that Southgate felt he was simply not right for his system.

However, Grealish now has his chance to impress Southgate in training and possibly in the Nations League games in Iceland and Denmark if given a game.

Having previously played for the England Under-21s, Grealish was also part of Southgate’s Toulon Tournament-winning squad of 2016.

England face Iceland in Reykjavik on September 5 before travelling to Copenhagen to play Denmark three days later.
