Mario Gotze: Borussia Dortmund midfielder and Germany World Cup winner to leave at end of season

Midfielder Mario Gotze, scorer of Germany's winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final, will leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.

Gotze, 27, rejoined the club in 2016 after three years with Bayern Munich.

He has made more than 200 appearances for Dortmund across two spells, but has struggled with illness and injury in recent seasons, starting only six matches this term.

Gotze's contract expires this summer, meaning he will now be available on a free transfer.

"We will part ways with Mario Gotze this summer," said Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc.

"It was a mutual and respectful decision. Mario is a great man."
