Should top-flight clubs submit a deal sheet by 5pm, they will have until 7pm to complete the deal with the use of a 'deal sheet'.

14:37 - Pochettino on transfers

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino says it will be "difficult" to make any signings before the transfer window shuts.

Spurs are the only Premier League club not to make an addition to their squad and Pochettino admits any arrivals are unlikely before the 5pm deadline.

The club have been linked with a number of names over the summer, notably Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish, who they had a £25million bid for rejected on Wednesday.

With just hours to go until the window shuts, it looks like being a fruitless period for the club, who Pochettino challenged to be "brave and take risks" at the end of last season.

The Argentinian said: "I think it's so difficult now because it's only a few hours until the end and I don't have news now.

"It's sure it will be so difficult. Always, until you finish the game, you cannot say, 'Now it's the end of the game'. But in four hours it will be difficult to sign some players."

Sky Sports' Dharmesh Sheth explains the Diego Godin situation...

"Godin’s agent was actually the one who approached Manchester United this week, saying the player was keen to come to Old Trafford and a deal could be done.

"It’s my information that United made an offer for the agent to take to the Atletico board and within hours Godin signed a new contract on improved terms at Atletico Madrid, earning him 7.5m euros net per year.

"To be clear, Mourinho would have been keen to sign Godin, but he believes the desire on the agent’s part was always to leverage the situation to get a new contract for his client."

It may actually come to this...

The club have rejected offers from Tottenham this summer leaving the midfielder disappointed at not being able to move to White Hart Lane.

But it is understood Grealish will be handed an improved contract to reflect his importance to the club.

He has two years left on his current deal but a new contract is expected to be wrapped up in the next few weeks.

Grealish will not rock the boat at Villa Park and demand a move despite his desire to speak to Tottenham.

Spurs' opening offer of £3million plus Josh Onomah - who spent last season at Villa - was rejected and while they got close to the £25million asking price, Villa eventually told them Grealish was not for sale.

11:35 - Mourinho's race against time

Time running out for Jose Mourinho to bag a defender and the Sky Bet odds don't seem to be in his favour either...

The Manchester United boss probably wasn't too happy facing the press ahead of their season opener against Leicester on Friday rather than spending his time trying to force through some deals.

Asked if nothing would happen in or out before the Premier League deadline at 5pm, he said: "The information I have is no (nothing will happen). I am not confident.

"I am not confident, and the market closes today, so it's time, at least for me, to stop thinking about the market because the market will be closed."

11:32 - Reading set for double signing

The 24-year-old has penned a three-year deal, with the club having an option for a further 12 months.

11:02 - Maguire isn't leaving the Foxes

It's one of those lines that Leicester are having to say over and over - and with fellow centre-back Filip Benkovic arriving this morning, questions will of course be asked over the future of Harry Maguire.

But Rob Dorsett told Sky Sports News: "My sources are telling me that getting a central defender in doesn’t mean Leicester will allow Harry Maguire to go to Manchester United.

"I’m told categorically that Leicester have told Manchester United and everybody else that Harry Maguire is not for sale."

10:52 - DONE DEAL - Leicester add defender

Leicester have completed the signing of Filip Benkovic from Dinamo Zagreb, for a fee around the £13m mark.

2210 - Chelsea break world record for a goalkeeper!

Kepa Arrizabalaga has joined Chelsea on a seven-year contract from Athletic Bilbao, with the fee of £72.1million a world record for a goalkeeper!

It surpasses the £65m paid by Liverpool to Roma for Brazil goalkeeper Alisson Becker last month.

"It's a very important decision for me, for my career, and also for my personal life," he told the club's official website. "So many things attracted me to the club, all the titles the club has won, the other players, the city, the English Premier League.

"It's an accumulation of things, and I am very glad Chelsea has decided to trust me and to take me in as well."

2200 - Another boost for Fulham

Fulham have been splashing the cash this summer but their fans will be equally pleased to hear that teenage star Ryan Sessegnon isn't going anywhere.

Vice chairman and director of football operations Tony Khan tweeted: "We're not selling @ryansessegnon. We've never considered it!

"I couldn't sit back and read these false rumors anymore, had to say something.

"Ryan's key to this @fulhamfc squad; he's one of the top young talents worldwide and in our plans for @premierleague success. Come on Fulham!"

2120 - Will Mourinho get any man?

Jose Mourinho's dogged pursuit of a top-class centre back is expected to end with the capture of one of Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld or Jerome Boateng.

Leicester's Maguire has been a summer-long target for Manchester United, but his fine World Cup exploits with England have pushed up the Foxes' valuation of one of their top assets.

Spurs defender Alderweireld has been eyeing a move away from the north London club for some time now, and could be about to get his wish.

Bayern defender Boateng has emerged as a possible fall-back option for United in the last few days.

Surely he'll get one?

2100 - Seagulls swoop

There's been a transfer in the Premier League but not one to get your pulses racing, as Brighton sign Molde defender Leo Skiri Ostigard for an undisclosed fee.

To be fair, he is only 18 and boss Chris Hughton said: "Initially he will link up with Simon Rusk and our under-23 squad, but we will be monitoring his progress."

2045 - Rangers reject bid for captain

Rangers have rejected an offer in the region of £3million from West Brom for skipper James Tavernier.

Attacking full-back Tavernier, 26, joined Rangers from Wigan in July 2015 and has scored 28 goals and played almost 150 matches for the club.

2030 - It's because we're worth it

Leicester's Kasper Schmeichel is not surprised to see goalkeepers moving for "ridiculously high" fees given the fine line between success and failure.

"I think generally transfers are ridiculously high at the moment," he told ESPN. "It was only a matter of time before goalkeepers would get in on the act, because a good goalkeeper can be the difference between winning the league and not winning the league.

"That's the market at the moment. I think the Neymar transfer was pivotal to everything. Prices became very inflated and from there it was always going to reach every position.

"You saw it with Virgil van Dijk and now with Alisson - the market value has really gone up high."

2000 - Courtois heading to Real

Thibaut Courtois is to join Real Madrid in a deal that will see Mateo Kovacic move to Chelsea on a season-long loan.

The Belgian international will moving for a reported £35million, penning a six-year deal, and the Croatian midfielder will be coming the other way on loan.

A statement from Chelsea read: "Chelsea and Real Madrid have tonight agreed terms for the permanent transfer of Thibaut Courtois subject to the agreement of personal terms and passing a medical.

"Subject to the completion of the deal Mateo Kovacic will join the Blues on a season-long loan."

Of course Chelsea look set to replace Courtois with Kepa Arrizabalaga for a world record fee for a goalkeeper. We would describe it as a mind boggling £71m but we're all desensitised to these kind of fees now.

1945 - Villa swoop

Huge news from the Sky Bet Championship and the Scottish Premiership...Aston Villa have completed the signing of John McGinn from Hibernian despite renewed interest from Celtic.

In not quite the words of Han Solo, the 23-year-old midfielder said: "I got a real good feeling about the place."

Hibs moved quickly to replace McGinn by signing Bournemouth midfielder Emerson Hyndman, who impressed at Rangers last season, on a six-month loan.

Bournemouth have also allowed Brad Smith to join Seattle Sounders on loan.

1930 - Expensive keepers

Liverpool were asked whether £67million was too much for a goalkeeper a few weeks ago, so I guess we must all prepare to ask Chelsea fans a very similar question.

1830 - Mourinho's future

Paul Scholes' latest verdict on Jose Mourinho sums up why he's 4/1 second fav to be the first Premier League boss out...

"If they're not playing well, if they're not entertaining people, they're not challenging for the league, then he possibly could go."

18:00 - This time tomorrow

We may have got our last confirmed 'done deal' - but that's doubtful even though the cut-off point for signings is 5pm!

17:36 - Leeds, Leeds, Leeds

Will Leeds get anyone in before tomorrow's permanent transfers deadline?

Former Noel Whelan has praised their performance against Stoke regardless - saying "For Leeds and Bielsa, he's got to be more than happy with what he saw but it is about whether they can maintain that standard and that quality."

Whelan was speaking to the Sporting Life Championship preview podcast - and you can read more of his thoughts here.

17:30 - Birmingham add goalkeeper

Birmingham have completed the signing of goalkeeper Lee Camp on a free transfer from Cardiff.

The 33-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Sunderland, has penned a two-year contract with the Sky Bet Championship club.

Camp is set to become Birmingham's first-choice goalkeeper, casting doubts on the future of both David Stockdale and Tomasz Kuszczak.

16:55 - Manchester United look for Boateng loan

Man Utd are keen to bring Jerome Boateng to Old Trafford – but only on loan, rather than on a permanent basis, say Sky Sports.

Jose Mourinho still has the German international as his No 1 choice recruit – but privately behind the scenes at United there are fears over a permanent contract for a player with a chequered history of injuries.

Boateng, 29, suffered muscle and tendon injuries over the past three Bundesliga campaigns, missing 27 games in total since December 2016.

With one day left of the summer window, Mourinho is running out of time to find a new central defender. Privately, United believe Harry Maguire is not for sale at Leicester and as things stand, Yerry Mina’s chances coming to Old Trafford looks increasingly slim.

Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward has made funds available to Jose, but is determined not to pay over the odds in the current market.

16:27 - Grealish still to go?

Despite Aston Villa saying Grealish isn't for sale at any price - punters still fancy him to make a move to Tottenham, according to Sky Bet's odds.

Grealish's next club odds:

  • Tottenham - 7/4
  • Chelsea - 16/1
  • Leicester - 25/1
  • To Stay at Aston Villa - 4/9
  • To Leave Aston Villa - 13/8

15:30 - Bernard to Everton

Good news Everton fans, Bernard is in the country ahead of a medical...

15:19 - Maguire on the move?

Sky Sports say that Manchester United have already had two bids turned down by Leicester for Harry Maguire. The second bid was worth about £60m.

Leicester are in advanced talks to sign two centre backs – Filip Benkovic from Dinamo Zagreb and Caglar Soyuncu from Freiburg – at a combined cost of about £35m.

As far as Leicester are concerned, Maguire is not for sale; they signed him for £17m from Hull City last summer and he has four years left on his contract.

Leicester are expected to offer him a new deal after his impressive performances for England in the World Cup this summer.

14:43 - Shrews add a loan signing

Rangers confirm midfielder Greg Docherty has joined Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan deal.

Docherty, who joined the Light Blues from Hamilton Accies in January, has made 14 appearances so far in his time at Ibrox.

13:46 - Villa set to add Hibs midfielder

Aston Villa are in pole position to sign John McGinn despite renewed interest from Celtic, according to Hibernian head coach Neil Lennon.

Hibs midfielder McGinn spent Tuesday in talks with Aston Villa but Celtic are believed to have matched the Sky Bet Championship club's offer after having several previous bids rejected.

Lennon said: "He went down to Birmingham, I think he is having a medical there. A fee has been agreed. I don't know if personal terms have been agreed yet.

"I think Celtic have matched the offer but I think Villa are in the driving position at the minute."

13:12 - Hugill heading north

Reports say that Jordan Hugill has arrived on Teesside to undergo a medical with Middlesbrough.

It is unclear at this stage whether Boro are looking at loan deal or permanent transfer for the striker, who signed for West Ham for £9.5m in January.

It's been fairly clear throughout the summer that Hugill isn't in the Hammers' plans - and the former Preston striker was linked with a move to Leeds earlier in the window.

12:43 - Kovacic heading to Chelsea

Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic to have medical at Chelsea today ahead of a loan move, according to Sky Sports.

Reports say that Madrid have offered the midfielder to Chelsea as an incentive to sell them goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois - who wants a move away.

12:00 - Grealish to stay?

Jack Grealish is expected to leave Aston Villa
Jack Grealish to stay?

Massive news coming from Villa Park - and Sky Sports are saying that Jack Grealish will NOT be leaving for Tottenham this window.

Kepa Arrizabalaga
Kepa Arrizabalaga

Kepa Arrizabalaga's 80million euros (£71m) buyout clause has been met, Athletic Bilbao have announced, as the goalkeeper appears on the verge of a world record move to Chelsea.

The Basque club confirmed the 23-year-old's release clause has been activated and his contract terminated, although there is no mention of Chelsea.

The Blues have reportedly made Kepa their number one target to replace Thibaut Courtois, who has been absent from training this week, has one year remaining on his contract and reportedly wishes to join Real Madrid.

Sky Sports News reported yesterday Chelsea were in advanced talks to sign Kepa.

11:07 - United eager to hold onto Pogba

Paul Pogba
Paul Pogba

Manchester United have no intention of selling Paul Pogba, Press Association Sport understands.

Speculation is not only mounting about incomings before Thursday's deadline but outgoings from Jose Mourinho's side.

Pogba is attracting admiring glances after a fine World Cup and is reported to have told his team-mates that he is desperate to leave Old Trafford for Barcelona.

The France international has endured a testy relationship at times with manager Mourinho, but the United hierarchy are understood to have never been open to selling their club-record signing.

Pogba still has three years remaining on the deal he signed when returning from Juventus in a then world-record deal in 2016.

It is not believed that the midfielder has subsequently asked for more money on the back of Alexis Sanchez's January arrival, but there are questions to answer regarding his future and happiness.

11:03 - DONE DEAL - Ipswich add Shrewsbury duo

Ipswich Town have completed the double signing of Jon Nolan and Toto Nsiala.

Both come in from Shrewsbury Town, and join manager Paul Hurst in switching Shropshire for the Tractor Boys.

Midfielder Nolan and central defender Nsiala handed in transfer requests last week in order to force through a move.

10:58 - Signing inbound at Ipswich?

This isn't weird - nope, not weird at all.

10:55 - Terriers to add another?

Huddersfield are now in talks with Montpellier winger Isaac Mbenza, according to Sky Sports.

Sky Sports News reports that Terriers boss David Wagner is keen to add another wide player to his squad after selling Tom Ince to Stoke.

Mbenza scored 10 goals in 43 appearances last season as Montpellier finished comfortably mid-table in Ligue 1.

10:40 - More Mee time at Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has seen another of his key players commit to the club with defender Ben Mee signing a new three-year contract.

The 28-year-old has made 248 appearances for the Clarets since joining from Manchester City, initially on loan in 2011 and then permanently the following summer.

He had 12 months still to run on his deal but is now tied to the Clarets until June 2021, with the option of a further 12 months.

Mee has been one of the mainstays of Dyche's side during their Premier League campaigns and follows right-back Matt Lowton in signing a new contract.
