Shrewsbury Town part company with manager John Askey

Shrewsbury have parted company with manager John Askey, the Sky Bet League One club have announced.

Askey won four of 17 league matches with the Shrews after replacing Paul Hurst during the summer.

Assistant manager John Filan and first-team coach George Pilkington have also left the club, with goalkeeping coach Danny Coyne taking over on a temporary basis.

"Shrewsbury Town would like to place on record its thanks to John, John and George for their hard work and dedication during their time at the club and we wish them all well for the future," reads a statement on Shrewsbury's website.

Askey becomes the second manager to leave their position in Sky Bet League One following Neal Ardley's departure from AFC Wimbledon.

Ardley, who was appointed by Wimbledon in October 2012, departed alongside his assistant manager Neil Cox.

First-team coach Simon Bassey has been placed in temporary charge of the struggling Sky Bet League One club, who are second bottom in the table.

Wimbledon chief executive Erik Samuelson told the club's website: "Neal has been a credit to the club in everything he has done.

"He leaves with my personal thanks and gratitude for what he has done in his time here at AFC Wimbledon."
