Grand Slam of Darts results: James Wade and Gary Anderson advance with 100% records while MVG progresses

The rebooted Machine, who came into this event at the Aldersley Leisure Village having won back-to-back TV titles at the European Championship and World Series of Darts Finals, extended his winning streak to 13 matches overall with his third straight success in his Group C campaign.

Wade showed the already-eliminated Mark Webster no sympathy as he averaged 101 and hit five of his seven attempts at a double, including tops to take out a match high checkout of 107, while he finished the 5-1 romp with an 11-darter.

The new father was already guaranteed a spot in the second round but this latest victory sealed top spot and an impressive legs difference of +11.

Joining him in the second round as Group C runner-up is the BDO's Wesley Harms, who claimed a fantastic 5-4 victory in a thrilling battle with Keegan Brown in which both players averaged 104 and hit five 180s apiece.

In a winner-takes-all showdown, the Dutchman followed back-to-back maximums with a 96 checkout to complete an 11-darter that forced a deciding leg and although Brown had the advantage of throw, he was first to a finish of 140.

A visit of 100 set up tops but Brown came agonisingly close to taking out 138 when he just went inside on double 12 after two treble 19s, and moments later Harms pinned two 10s with his last dart.

Gary Anderson also completed a 100% record in Group B as he thrashed Steve Hine 5-1 with the help of a second successive 100+ average in the tournament, which he's hoping to win for the first time in his illustrious career.

Earlier this season the Flying Scotsman added his maiden UK Open, World Matchplay (making a nine-darter along the way!) and Champions League titles to his CV and he's second favourite to repeat the trick in Wolverhampton.

Michael Unterbuchner became the first BDO player in this year's staging to reach the knockout stages after a surprise 5-3 triumph over Ian White, who really struggled on his doubles.

Diamond scored better than the German, hitting three 180s along the way, but he missed 16 leg darts and Unterbuchner just about made him pay.

Michael van Gerwen ensured there would be no embarrassing Group A exit with a thumping 5-1 victory over Joe Murnan that saw him bounce back from Sunday's crazy defeat to Jonny Clayton.

That result ended the world number one's 22-match winning streak in this tournament, which he's bidding to win for the fourth year in a row, but it was business as usual as he swept aside Murnan with an average of 97 - some 10 points less than in his loss to Clayton!

MVG has suffered disappointments at the UK Open, World Matchplay, Champions League of Darts, European Championship and World Series of Darts Finals. this year but the Premier League & World Grand Prix are among the 18 titles he has won this year.

The Dutchman goes through as runner-up behind Clayton, who made it three wins from three with a fairly comfortable - if unspectacular - 5-3 victory over Gary Robson of the BDO.

Raymond van Barneveld crashed out of the group stages for just the third time in his career after a thumping 5-0 defeat to Michael Smith saw him finish third in Group B.

The 2012 champion needed to defeat Bully Boy 5-3 or better to progress after Krzysztof Ratajski had earlier thrashed Adam Smith-Neale of the BDO 5-1 to seal his second-round place.

But Barney was never at the races, averaging just 90, failing to hit a 180 and missing his only two attempts at doubles.

Smith averaged 98 in his third successive victory which sees him take top spot and set up a second-round meeting with Group A runner-up van Gerwen.

The dangerous Ratajski, who recently won back-to-back Players Championship events, averaged 102 and hit five of his nine attempts at doubles and will be confident ahead of his clash with Clayton.

Scoring System: Each competitor plays each other once in a best-of-nine legs match, with two points going to the winner. The top two from each group will then progress to the knockout stages. Any two-way points tie in any position, the player with best leg difference will finish higher. If two players are still level then the winner of the match between them will progress.
