Daryl Gurney (13/8) v Mensur Suljovic (5/4), draw 11/4

Head-to-head: 6-4
PL Darts 2018 stats
3-dart Average: 96.97 - 100.21
180s: 23 - 9
100+ checkouts: 1 - 5
Highest checkout: 110 - 138
Checkout %: 29.41% (30/102) - 46.67% (28/60)

This is a pretty meaningful game for the two of them, with both on four points.

Either can escape from here and go on to survive Judgement Night given how bunched up the table is but in terms of potentially making the top four, this is a very important match.

There aren’t many opportunities to play people in the bottom half so when you do, you have to take them if you have aspirations to go far.

I think Mensur has played well enough to have more points and has had bad luck in terms of very good performances against him. Last week was no exception, with Rob Cross looking like a world champion for the first time since getting that title.

Daryl is scoring well but he’s a little too iffy too often, especially on his doubles.

I like the low Player Performance bet for Mensur which is for him to win, score over 1.5 180s and have a checkout of over 81.5 at 3/1.

Michael van Gerwen (2/7) v Michael Smith (6/1), draw 5/1

Head-to-head: 19-5
PL Darts 2018 stats
3-dart Average: 103.49 - 93.00
180s: 20 - 17
100+ checkouts: 7 - 4
Highest checkout: 170 - 124
Checkout %: 44.94% (40/89) - 40.00% (40/100)

Michael Smith is certainly capable of causing a shock here and he has been a very classy player so far with plenty of points on the board.

But he just lacks the overall package that MVG has mentally.

MVG is playing the guy he really wants to beat to go top of the table by himself so he’ll even be particularly displeased with a draw. He wants to be clear on his own, end of.

And when MVG is in this kind of mood, he’s even harder to stop than usual.

I like his medium Player Performance bet to win, over 3.5 180s and over 111.5 checkout, which is 7/2.

Those numbers sound very achievable because in playing Michael Smith, you have the prospect of it being a high-quality game with plenty of legs to push MVG on.

Gary Anderson (4/9) v Simon Whitlock (9/2), draw 7/2

Head-to-head: 21-16
PL Darts 2018 stats
3-dart Average: 98.49 - 94.71
180s: 22 - 15
100+ checkouts: 7 - 4
Highest checkout: 170 - 160
Checkout %: 38.82% (33/85) - 43.59% (34/78)

Gary isn’t where he wants to be in the table, lying in sixth place alone on five points.

He’s two points behind fourth-spot which is held by Simon so he should be highly focused for a win to go level or even ahead because of leg difference.

I don’t think Simon is playing as well as he could be and didn’t have a great weekend result-wise so I expect Gary to pile on the pressure here and let his class show.

I like him for the match treble in which he has to outdo Simon on the 180s and the highest checkout – as well as winning. That pays 11/4 and I think that’s a pretty solid prospect, especially if Gary plays close to the performance levels he has been doing.

Peter Wright (13/8) v Raymond van Barneveld (5/4), draw 11/4

Head-to-head: 9-8
PL Darts 2018 stats
3-dart Average: 95.90 - 93.37
180s: 11 - 16
100+ checkouts: 3 - 4
Highest checkout: 120 - 167
Checkout %: 37.88% (25/66) - 36.67% (33/90)

Raymond is ahead in the table and in a better position mentally, even though he isn’t in the top four at the moment.

He’s not thinking about Judgement Night – his only concern is being there at the very end and potentially winning it.

Barney has just been going about his business and while he hasn’t been spectacular, he’s ground out some decent results.

There’s a lot of pressure on Peter Wright because of the poor form he’s in and he’s now suffered back-to-back 7-1 defeats.

I’ve got to go with Raymond here and I like the idea of the match treble at 5/1 because he’s good with both the high finishes and 180s.

It’s dangerous because Peter is going to be determined to fix his problems but when you are that far out of control, it’s hard to get a grip of it.

Rob Cross (2/5) v Gerwyn Price (5/1), draw 7/2

Head-to-head: 1-1
PL Darts 2018 stats
3-dart Average: 97.37 - 92.04
180s: 18 - 11
100+ checkouts: 5 - 5
Highest checkout: 128 - 148
Checkout %: 45.59% (31/68) - 40.63% (26/64)

When you’re talking about the best darts players in the world, one of the things that comes up is averages but the other is ‘timing’ and knowing when to hit the targets.

That’s what makes you champion but it’s the aspect of the game which Gerwyn has been lacking, because he has played better than the two points he’s picked up so far.

It is also why Rob is world champion. He seems unflappable when he’s at his best while his ability to hit 180s and high checkouts when he needs them has been great.

I can’t really say any other result than Rob winning this match and I’m again going for the match treble as he’s been so strong on the 180s and high outs recently. It’s 15/8 which seems pretty good value all things considered.
