The 2017 Premier League Darts regular season comes to a close on Thursday May 11 at the GE Oil & Gas Arena in Aberdeen, as Michael van Gerwen looks to keep hold of top spot from Peter Wright and Phil Taylor hopes to rubber stamp the fourth and final play-off spot.

John Part, who triumphed in two PDC World Championship finals against Phil Taylor and Kirk Shepherd to add to his BDO crown of 1994, continues to bring you match-by-match analysis and predictions ahead of every round of the 16-week season, including the finale at London's O2 on May 18.

So here are Darth Maple's best bets for all four games in Aberdeen, where he will be commentating on Sky Sports from 1900 GMT...    

Premier League Darts: Week 15 predictions

JOHN PART'S TREBLE: CHISNALL, WRIGHT & ANDERSON AT 10.25/1

Dave Chisnall (4/5) v James Wade (9/4) (Draw 4/1)

Chizzy has been in a great run of form and although it’s highly unlikely he can now pip Phil Taylor in the race for the play-offs, finishing fifth will be like a moral victory considering he was bottom after the Judgement Night relegations.

He also played very well at the European Darts Grand Prix this past weekend, where he reached the semi-finals before losing 6-5 to Michael van Gerwen, so I believe he can end the season on a high and give him confidence for the summer months and July’s World Matchplay.

With a leg difference deficit of 10 to overturn, realistically he’ll need to win 7-2 or better to give Taylor something to think about although even if they do finish level on this criteria, Phil will go through virtue of legs won against the throw this season (Taylor has won 32 so far, Chisnall 25).

Therefore a 7-4 win for Chizzy will mean he can’t make it, even if Taylor goes on to lose 7-0.

The size of victory he needs won’t be easy but Wade isn’t in a great place at the moment and even his Machine-like ability needs confidence to be at his most efficient.

Gary Anderson didn’t need to near his best to beat James pretty comfortably last week so with Chizzy in such good form, it’s hard to see an upset.

Even the high outs, which James is renowned for, have deserted him somewhat this season which is why I’m going to back Chizzy to achieve the match treble at 2/1.

The safer double of Chizzy to win with most 180s is 11/10 but almost doubling that price by throwing in the highest out seems a gamble worth taking when you think he could win comfortably. 

Phil Taylor (8/11) v Adrian Lewis (5/2) (Draw 4/1)

As implied above, Phil is going to be assured of a play-off spot unless Chizzy has managed to win 7-3 or better but only an unlikely 7-0 scoreline will have him nervous.

Assuming that hasn’t happened, Phil’s mind will already be looking ahead to next week and therefore he could be guilty of losing focus for this final league fixture.

Adrian will want some kind of redemption after an awful recent run and he’s that unpredictable, I really wouldn’t be surprised if he reversed the form guide.

The match treble of Lewis winning, hitting most 180s and the highest checkout is a big price at 17/2 if he regains the form we saw earlier in the season and it wouldn’t be the first time he turned it on without any real warning.

Saying that, he did find some form at the European Darts Grand Prix at the weekend before losing to a very in-form Chizzy so maybe that’s a positive sign of a good performance to come.

It’s a fun concept with Lewis’ unpredictability and certainly more interesting than backing Taylor if he doesn’t really need anything from the game other than a couple of legs or three – although keep the stakes small for this one. 

Peter Wright (4/6) v Raymond van Barneveld (11/4) (Draw 4/1)

Peter Wright is in a great place right now, with his 6-0 win over Michael van Gerwen at the European Darts Grand Prix on Sunday giving him a seventh title of the season – two more than the world number one.

He’s winning when it matters and playing well so now he’ll be sensing the opportunity that has opened up to potentially top the Premier League table, albeit also needing the help of Gary Anderson later in the night.

We should expect another comfortable performance from Peter, especially as he’ll probably be up against the grumpy, sulky Barney following a long trip north with nothing on the line.

If he had something to play for it could have been a different story but he’ll have no real purpose. He usually gets very good support in Scotland but even that advantage won’t be there against the Scottish descendant! 

I like the Player Performance bet for Wright at 5/1 which requires him to win, score over 3.5 180s and have a checkout of over 104.5.

These are very modest numbers to take care of and obviously in this market it doesn’t matter if Barney, who has been dangerous in both these areas of the game, outdoes him as long as he doesn’t win.

The checkouts can tend to be the risky segments of these bets but of the 13 ton plus finishes Wright’s had in his 15 games so far, 12 have been over 104.5. 

Michael van Gerwen (4/6) v Gary Anderson (11/4) (Draw 4/1)

If Peter has beaten Barney then this match is a great way to wrap up the regular season, with MVG needing to win to top the table.

Despite this year’s Premier League being arguably the most competitive ever, the key cut off weeks haven’t had meaningful matches, with Judgement Night having nothing on the line and the race for the top four all but ending a week early barring any miracles for Chizzy tonight.

I suppose it would therefore be typical of the season if Peter fails to win and this ends up being meaningless too! 

But assuming Wright has done his bit, like I expect, then it’ll put Gary in a weird place. It’s no secret he doesn’t get on well with Peter so it won’t please him that victory against MVG will put the £25,000 league leaders’ bonus in his back pocket!

He’s therefore in a bit of a no win situation unless Raymond can stop Peter going top and take away that scenario of potentially doing anyone a favour.

Obviously this isn’t to say he won’t want to win his match, especially with it being MVG, who he could end up playing next week on finals night.

Having also won their previous meeting, it would be a great boost for him to go into another match with Michael on the back of two straight wins.

He’ll also want to put on a show for the Aberdeen fans who will clearly give him all the support and of course he won’t want to lose to a guy Peter Wright thumped 6-0 on Sunday!

That result, together with his defeat to Phil Taylor last Thursday, means Michael isn’t in an ideal frame of mind at the moment and having the whole arena against him won’t help. 

It was his first whitewash defeat since losing to Ian White in April last year and his first against one of his main rivals since Anderson thrashed him in May 2015.

Although the mental part of his game isn’t at his peak, the arm part is still pretty good even though he’s not in the dominating form we’re used to. It’s not as if he’s throwing poorly. 

Should he go into this match in second, then he’ll have all the pressure of living up to saying who he is and that’s not easy against the man who has been his chief rival in recent times.

There’s never really been a period where’s he’s enjoyed domination over Gary, who has beaten him a fair share of times, so he won’t want to lose this one and then have to play him against next week.

I’m going to put Anderson into my treble rather than risk the inconsistency of Adrian Lewis, but because this one is also pretty hard to call in terms of a winner I’d also suggest backing the Match Action bet for this one at a generous 7/2.

You only need it to have 11 legs, so a 7-4 either way will do, eight 180s and a checkout of over 122.5. They are both prolific on their 180s and Anderson alone has had eight checkouts over that line this season, with MVG managing it twice.
