Match report

Worcestershire moved to the top of the Royal London One-Day Cup North Group after a superb Tom Kohler-Cadmore century and fine all-round display from Daryl Mitchell helped them defeat previous leaders Yorkshire Vikings.

Kohler-Cadmore scored 118 off 119 balls as the Rapids achieved their highest List A score against first class opposition at New Road - 342 all out in 48.5 overs.

Then Mitchell followed up his knock of 69 with three key wickets as Yorkshire, despite a List A best performance from Australian batsman Peter Handscomb (88), were bowled out for 291 in 46.3 overs, handing the hosts a 51-run win.

Victory maintained Worcestershire's unbeaten start to the season in all competitions. They have won their opening two matches in the Specsavers County Championship and scored three victories and a tie in the One-Day Cup.

It has been a superb baptism for new captain Joe Leach, who succeeded Mitchell at the end of last season.

Kohler-Cadmore returned to Worcester in the early hours of Thursday morning from the One-Day Cup clash at Northampton but volunteered to play in yesterday's second XI clash with Derbyshire at Kidderminster.

The 22-year-old scored 121 off 101 balls and his time in the middle certainly paid dividends on Friday as he reached three figures off 102 balls.

He struck five sixes and 10 fours in making 118 from 119 deliveries - just one short of his List A best against Northamptonshire in the same competition last summer.

Kohler-Cadmore was given excellent support during an opening stand of 135 in 22 overs by Mitchell, who followed up his 75 at Wantage Road with another accomplished knock made off 61 balls with one six and six fours.

Worcestershire were pegged back mid-innings and Steve Patterson picked up three wickets in the space of seven balls - including Kohler-Cadmore - to leave them on 270 for seven in the 43rd over.

However, the home side were given late momentum by Leach (41) and John Hastings (33) in a stand of 67 in 5.5 overs before the pair of them and Ed Barnard were dismissed in the 49th over from Matthew Waite.

Yorkshire set out needing to achieve their highest run chase for the second time in three days, after reaching a 336 target versus Durham.

Openers Adam Lyth and Alex Lees thrashed 70 off the opening 10-over powerplay to give their side an ideal platform.

Hastings checked their progress with two wickets in two overs with Lees (19) caught behind and Will Rhodes (10) well held by Brett D'Oliveira at point.

Lyth brought up his half-century off 38 balls - 44 of his runs coming in boundaries - but on 59 he was undone by a slower ball from Leach and trapped lbw swinging across the line.

Vikings skipper Gary Ballance (15) was run out by Barnard's throw from square leg when trying to regain his ground at the wicketkeeper's end after taking one run.

Mitchell was brought into the attack by Leach and the occasional medium pacer struck twice in three overs, holding onto a return catch from Jack Leaning (13) and then seeing Tim Bresnan (7) pouched at deep midwicket.

Yorkshire were then 204 for six in the 32nd over and their hopes rested with Handscomb.

But, after Mitchell had disposed of Waite (19), it was Barnard who effectively sealed the game for the Rapids by bowling the Australian with just over nine overs remaining.
