IPL scores (Kolkata)
Kolkata Knight Riders beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 82 runs
Kolkata Knight Riders: 131 all out (Narine 34, Woakes 18; Chahal 3-16, Negi 2-15, Mills 2-31)
Royal Challengers Bangalore: 49 all out (Jadhav 9; De Grandhomme 3-4, Woakes 3-6, Coulter-Nile 3-21)
A raucous Eden Gardens crowd roared Kolkata Knight Riders to a stunning victory over Royal Bangalore Challengers by 82 runs.
Having themselves collapsed from 65-1 to 131 all out, KKR produced a brilliant performance with the ball to skittle RCB for 49 - the lowest score in IPL history - in just 9.4 overs.
It was the quick bowlers who did the damage, Nathan Coulter-Nile (3-21), Chris Woakes (3-6) and Colin de Grandhomme (3-4) each taking three wickets as RCB imploded.
Such a low-scoring affair seemed unthinkable when Sunil Narine thumped 18 from the first over of the match and KKR were cruising along at more than 10 an over throughout the powerplay.
However, the wicket of Narine (34 from 17 balls) in the final over of that powerplay led to a seismic shift in momentum as wickets began to tumble.
The guile of Yuzvendra Chahal was too much for the KKR batsmen and the leg-spinner picked up 3-16 while Tymal Mills (2-31) marked his return to the side with two wickets.
The hosts knew their only chance of defending such a small total was to bowl out RCB and their star-studded batting line up, Coulter-Nile leading the way with a superb spell of aggressive bowling.
The Australian began by removing Virat Kohli for a golden duck and dismissing AB de Villiers with a ferocious bouncer in his next over.
It was left to Woakes to dismiss the third of RCB's golden triumvirate at the top of the order, Chris Gayle undone by the pace of another banged-in delivery as he skewed the ball to Coulter-Nile at mid-off.
Woakes then made it two wickets in his first over as a beautiful away swinger found Stuart Binny's outside edge. The England bowler proceeded to trap Samuel Badree lbw in his next as RCB wilted - not a single player able to reach double figures.
De Grandhomme finished the job with Manish Pandey's diving catch at second slip to remove Chahal a fitting end to a remarkable match, dominated by the bowlers.
Victory for KKR sees them cut the gap on leaders Mumbai Indians at the top of the IPL table while RCB sit bottom after a fifth defeat in seven.
