Match report

Pakistan extended their Twenty20 dominance over the West Indies by pinching a three-run victory at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain.

Teenage leg-spinner Shadab Khan's four for 14 did much of the damage before a dramatic finish saw West Indies foiled when on the brink of halting their losing run to the tourists.

Instead Pakistan picked up a fifth successive T20 win over the world champions in cricket's shortest format, four days after a six-wicket stroll in Bridgetown nudged them ahead in the series.

Chasing down Pakistan's 132 all out, Marlon Samuels provided the backbone of the West Indies innings with a breezy 44, before he fell to the last ball of 18-year-old Shadab's masterful performance, edging behind to Sarfraz Ahmed.

When West Indies still required 14 from the final over, they looked destined to miss out, yet Sunil Narine cracked fours from the first two balls sent down by Hasan Ali, who also sent down a wide to nudge the hosts closer to the line.

Five runs short of their target and with three deliveries to come, West Indies were suddenly favourites, but a dot ball was followed by Narine being run out, and when Jason Holder could only prod a single the home side were left disappointed once more, marooned on 129 for eight.

Shoaib Malik had earlier got stuck into Carlos Brathwaite's bowling, taking 14 in a run of four balls in the 12th over. But when the all-rounder was brought back into the attack he removed the Pakistan dangerman for 28, caught by Kieron Pollard when going for another boundary.

Babar Azam weighed in with 27, having made an early entrance after opener Kamran Akmal fell for a first-over duck, and number 10 Wahab Riaz flayed death bowlers Kesrick Williams and Brathwaite before the latter had him caught for 24 from 10 balls.

Those runs proved priceless in the final reckoning, with the outcome meaning Pakistan cannot lose the series and can push instead to win it handsomely.

The four-match series continues at the same venue, with matches on Saturday and Sunday.
