Friday's review

Tim Bresnan's six for 19 helped Yorkshire win a dramatic NatWest T20 Blast Roses game by 19 runs to take a significant step towards the quarter-finals.

Chasing 183 in front of a 15,750 Headingley sell-out, Lancashire were 163 all out as captain Bresnan produced three wickets and a run-out in the last over of the match.

With both sides sitting immediately outside the North Group's top four on 11 points beforehand, Lightning spinner Stephen Parry said he thought it was "the biggest Roses T20 we've ever played".

It was the Vikings who ended their run of three defeats and Lancashire, for whom captain Steven Croft top-scored with 62, must realistically win their last two matches and hope for other results to go their way.

Adam Lyth top-scored with 50 in Yorkshire's 182 for seven, but leg-spinner Matt Parkinson pegged them back with career-best figures of four for 23.

Bresnan's figures, meanwhile, were his and Yorkshire's best ever in the format. His side are now 9/1 third-favourites to go on and lift the trophy with Sky Bet.

An unbeaten half-century from Samit Patel helped 4/1 market leaders Notts Outlaws strengthen their lead at the top of the North Group.

Patel scored 77 from just 48 balls, adding 96 for the fourth wicket with Brendan Taylor, who made 36, as the Outlaws chased down a victory target of 181 to beat Birmingham Bears by five wickets, with 11 balls to spare.

Sam Hain ensured the Bears put a competitive total on the board, making an undefeated 82 out of a total of 180 for seven.

Hain, who scored 92 not out in the corresponding match last season, scored his runs from 50 balls, with eight fours and three sixes. Jake Ball was the pick of the Outlaws' attack, taking career-best figures of three for 27.

Keaton Jennings enjoyed more success with the ball than the bat on his Durham return in a 13-run win over Worcestershire.

Available for the first time in this season's Blast after being dropped from the England Test side, the left-hander continued to look out of touch as he scored four from 10 balls.

But his gentle medium pace earned two for seven in his first three overs, stifling the Rapids after they had reached 78 for one from 10 overs in reply to 165 for five.

Mark Cosgrove's best Twenty20 score for Leicestershire helped keep the county's campaign alive with a commanding 48-run win over champions Northamptonshire at Wantage Road.

Cosgrove's 76 from 48 balls helped Leicestershire make 193 for five - their highest total in the fixture - and it was easily defended with only Adam Rossington showing for Northants with a season-best 67 in 46 balls.

Northants failed to seal a quarter-final spot and will now need to beat Yorkshire at Headingley or Durham at home to reach the last eight.

Sussex boosted their hopes of reaching the knockout stages by easing to a five-wicket victory over Gloucestershire at Hove.

The visitors were bowled out for 138 in 18.4 overs after an excellent bowling and fielding display by the hosts, led by Chris Jordan and George Garton who both took three wickets.

Sussex stuttered when they lost four for 16 in 23 balls, but Laurie Evans supervised the chase with an unbeaten 45 and two sixes in the 18th over off former Sussex seamer Chris Liddle took Sussex to their second successive win at home with 14 balls to spare.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Calvin Dickinson scored a sublime 23-ball 50 to upstage his Kent counterpart Sam Billings and set up Hampshire's six-wicket win over the Spitfires in Canterbury.

In only his second appearance in the short-form game, the diminutive Dickinson cracked eight fours and two sixes to get Hampshire off to a flying start in their pursuit of Kent's par-for-the-course total of 167 for seven.

Following Dickinson's pyrotechnics, Hampshire skipper James Vince played a typically level-headed innings of 57 off 36 balls to earn his side's seventh south group win with 16 deliveries to spare, taking them to the top of the table, and they're 7/1 in the outright market.

Adam Wheater starred with the bat and Ravi Bopara and Mohammad Amir bowled typically miserly four-over spells as Essex kept alive their outside hopes of reaching the knockout stages of the T20 Blast with a nine-run win over Middlesex on Friday evening.

Middlesex leg-spinner Nathan Sowter blasted a hole in the middle of the Essex innings with career-best Twenty20 figures of four for 23, but the Eagles still managed 172 for nine, with Wheater's 21-ball 43 laying the foundations for the home win.

Bopara and Amir, who took two wickets apiece, were well supported by Dan Lawrence and Simon Harmer as the visitors pulled up short, finishing on 163 for seven.

Essex's fourth win of the season moved them off the foot of the South Group, but they require victories from their final three games to stand any hope of a quarter-final spot.
