Colin Ingram was at his brutal best in smashing 114 from only 55 balls as Glamorgan clinched a thrilling five-wicket win over Essex in a NatWest T20 Blast encounter that went right to the wire.
The runs flowed freely at Chelmsford and that was never more apparent than when Ingram was at the crease, the destructive left-hander, who was dropped on 13, butchering eight fours and nine sixes as Glamorgan overhauled Essex's 219 for four.
When the big-hitting South African departed after being run out by Mohammad Amir, it was left to Craig Meschede to get the visitors over the line, and he did so with aplomb by clearing the boundary with two required off the final ball of the innings.
That left Varun Chopra on the losing side, even though the Essex opener registered his maiden T20 century with a splendid 103 not out from 59 balls, while Ravi Bopara can count himself equally unfortunate after a cameo 63 from just 32 deliveries.
But the Essex pair played their part in a thrilling clash which contained 29 sixes - 15 from Essex and 14 from Glamorgan - on a day where 443 runs were scored.
Elsewhere in the South Group, Somerset, led by rookie Adam Hose, clinched their first win of the campaign after defeating Middlesex by 21 runs at Uxbridge.
Hose's sparkling 59 from 28 balls included eight fours and two sixes and lifted Somerset to 207 for nine - a total that proved to be beyond their opponents.
Craig Overton was the pick of the bowlers on either side after taking three for 24 with several Middlesex batsmen unable to build on promising starts as they were restricted to 186 for seven.
Jos Buttler displayed an element of restraint, but his unbeaten 42 carried Lancashire to a comfortable five-wicket triumph over Derbyshire at Old Trafford in the North Group.
His ferocious ball striking has made him one of the world's most dangerous batsmen in limited overs, but, with a manageable 152 for eight to chase down, Buttler reined himself in and only struck three fours.
But his efforts - complemented by 24 not out from Ryan McLaren in an unbroken 43-run stand that featured plenty of running between the wickets - steered the Red Rose to victory with nine balls to spare.
Leicestershire continued their 100 per cent winning start to the season after seeing off Birmingham Bears by nine runs at Edgbaston.
Luke Ronchi's 23-ball 46 was the highlight as Leicestershire stuttered to 147 for nine after being invited to bat first, but, bolstered by Colin Ackermann's three for 21, they were able to restrict Birmingham to 138 for eight.
Finally, Sussex and Gloucestershire were frustrated by heavy showers as their South Group encounter was abandoned mid-innings.
Sussex captain Ross Taylor anchored his side with an unbeaten 47 to guide Sussex to 156 for eight but the inclement weather at Cheltenham had the final say.
