Match report
Ben Stokes registered his maiden Indian Premier League half-century but his Rising Pune Supergiant side succumbed to a six-wicket loss to Kings XI Punjab in Indore.
Stokes, a record-breaking £1.7million acquisition, provided the mid-innings impetus with two fours and three sixes in a 30-ball 50 although he failed to kick on, returning a catch to slow left armer Axar Patel after facing only two more deliveries.
Manoj Tiwary's 40 not out carried the defending champions, who defeated Mumbai Indians in their opener, to 163 for six but their total was overhauled by thanks to the efforts of Glenn Maxwell and David Miller (30no).
The Kings XI pair, renowned for their big-hitting, put on an unbroken 79-run stand after they had slipped to 85 for four, with skipper Maxwell (44no off 20 balls) in particularly destructive mood.
The Australian tilted the game in Kings XI's favour with back-to-back maximums off Imran Tahir and he carried his side over the line with an over to spare.
