England all-rounder Ben Stokes finished on the losing side despite a solid performance for the Rising Pune Supergiant against the Gujarat Lions.

Stokes, the Indian Premier League's record overseas signing, hit two fours and a six in his 25 from 18 balls before he was duped by Andrew Tye's slower ball and bowled through the gate.

Manoj Tiwary and Ankit Sharma put on 47 to lift Pune to 171 for eight, Australian Tye taking a hat-trick in the final over for figures of five for 17 on his IPL debut.

The Lions left out England opener Jason Roy, going with Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum who put on 94 inside nine overs.

Suresh Raina and Aaron Finch then finished off a successful chase despite Stokes going at just six an over in his three overs.
