Match report
Leg-spinner Rashid Khan took 3-19 to enhance his rising reputation and pave the way for Sunrisers Hyderabad's nine-wicket win over Gujarat Lions.
The Afghanistan spinner removed Brendon McCullum, Aaron Finch and Suresh Raina in quick succession to limit Gujarat to 135-7, despite Jason Roy's 31 off 21 balls.
Sunrisers cruised to their second win in as many games as captain David Warner (76no) shared an unbeaten 108-run stand with fellow Australian Moises Henriques (52no off 39), the defending champions closing on 140-1 off 15.3 overs.
The early overs of the Gujarat innings were all about Roy, the England opener dominating a 35-run stand with McCullum, who contributed five.
Roy pillaged back-to-back boundaries off Kumar Bhuvneshwar and Bipul Sharma before McCullum couldn't resist a swing at Rashid's googly and was trapped lbw.
Rashid should have had two in two balls but Warner couldn't hold a sharp chance to his right at slip as Raina drove at, and edged, his first ball.
Roy enjoyed no such luck two runs later as he swung Bhuvneshwar to leg and was superbly taken by a diving Shikhar Dhawan at midwicket.
Gujarat's slump continued as Rashid attacked the stumps, bowling at pace and finding just enough turn to trap Finch lbw for three - the third wicket to fall for just three runs.
The spinner bagged his third scalp by dismissing Raina with one that came back into the skipper - earning the right to the purple cap, for joining Imran Tahir as the leading wicket-taker in the tournament so far.
From 57-4 the stand Gujarat so desperately needed was forged by Dwayne Smith (37 off 27 balls) and Dinesh Karthik (30 off 32), who added 56 in 7.4 overs before falling in the space of two overs.
Gujarat's slump worsened to 2-3 when Rashid produced a pinpoint throw to run out Dhawal Kulkarni - their final score some 48 runs short of the 183-4 scored in their opening defeat, to Kolkata.
The fragility of their position was exposed as Dhawan twice, and Warner, once, cleared the ropes in Raina's second over of the innings to get the chase off to a flying start.
Dhawan's stay was cut short courtesy of a leading edge off a Praveen full toss but Warner's timing was spot on as he cruised to a 31-ball fifty, celebrating by smashing Tejas Baroka's wrong 'un back over his head for six.
The left-hander wrapped up the emphatic win in similar fashion, powering Baroka over long on shortly after Henriques had completed his second consecutive fifty.
