The Wimbledon legend was playing in a men's invitational doubles match with Patrick McEnroe against Jacco Eltingh and Paul Haarhuis at SW19 when he asked the umpire to join in.
They were a set down and tied on deuce with five games each and the umpire stepped up.
He surprisingly gave a good account of himself with a range of shots including an overhead smash which earned his team a point.
Leconte took his place in the umpire's chair and entertained the crowd with his comments on the microphone as his replacement battled for game point.
Suited in his umpire attire, he even got into it a little too much and took a tumble, but he was soon helped to his feet by McEnroe and applauded by the crowd.
