Luca Brecel gave the locals a fright before edging through to the second round of the European Masters.
The Belgian potter was in front early against Thor Chuan Leong, but lost frames four and five to fall within one more frame of a disappointing exit.
However, Brecel showed his class with a 78 break to level things up before dominating the decider as he survived an upset.
John Higgins produced arguably the most impressive performance of the day in Lommel, with two century breaks and two more half-centuries sealing a 4-0 whitewash of Alexander Ursenbacher.
Stuart Bingham also registered two centuries as he saw off Mitchell Mann 4-2.
Mark Davis started with a 103 break as he saw off Matthew Selt 4-1, whereas Anthony McGill came through a tighter, scrappier affair to beat Joe Swail 4-3.
Mark Allen produced some stunning snooker with his back against the wall to beat Hossein Vafaei 4-3, taking the final three frames having trailed 3-1.
Allen hit the high break of the tournament so far in frame five, a 145 clearance, and achieved the rare feat of scoring 151 points after a foul from his opponent.
Also on Tuesday, Alfie Burden signed off with a 113 break as he beat Eden Sharav 4-1, Mark Williams was a ready winner by the same scoreline against Yan Bingtao, and Graeme Dott beat Jamie Rhys Clarke 4-2.
