Harry Cobden talks Cyrname, riding for Paul Nicholls and his desire to be champion jockey

We paid a visit to Harry Cobden ahead of the title-seeking jockey's big Boxing Day ride on leading King George VI Chase fancy Cyrname.

Cobden speaks candidly to with Oli Bell about his expectations with Cyrname, having been disappointed to be second behind stablemate Clan Des Obeaux.

The young rider talks about the thought process behind his decision to stay loyal to the Charlie Hall Chase winner, while he also discusses working for Paul Nicholls, the desire to be champion jockey and the extraordinary circumstances around one of his very first rides as a teenager.

"On my 16th birthday I decided I didn't want to go back to school and I wanted to pursue my career as a jockey," he says.

"Part of me, looking back, thinks it was a bit of a silly idea. But I went to Leicester to ride in my first Hunter Chase for Anthony Honeyball rather than my GCSEs. It was a 33/1 chance and had no chance on paper but it got up and won on the line and I think dad had 20 quid on or something so that made my mum a bit happier when he came back from the bookies!

"It was an amazing day and definitely worth not going in and sitting down to do the English exam."
